Hmmm. I do think Reign In Blood deserves it's classic status. It is a brilliant album. But there is a lot of Slayer stuff that I find to be mediocre, not just the recent stuff, but many other things as well. I revisited my South of Heaven and Seasons in the Abyss albums a little while ago, and I didn't find them as great as I did when I was a younger youngster. I suppose I just find them quite boring on occassion. However I still haven't properly listened to their earlier stuff, I really really want to hear Hell Awaits and Show No Mercy, as I hear very good things about them.

I've heard a live version of Chemical Warfare, which makes me laugh just because of the way it's introduced. I remember that being a great song, though I haven't listened to it for about 5 or 6 years. But yes, basically I'm an early-Slayer-n00b.

To be fair, I've never had the pleasure of SNM. However, Hell Awaits is awesome. I also agree with Jon, I think SOH and Seasons are a little mediocre. Not generally... more in comparison to RIB and Hell Awaits.

I feel bad that I havn't listened to it for a while, I was gonna listen to it on the way to work tomorrow but Scream Bloody Gore came in the post today so that it is! I'll take SNM just incase! Seriously The Antichrist is one of my favourite songs.

EDIT: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-TTXqKNlhVY If they played anything off of Show No Mercy at Download I would have died a very cummy death.

Saying all this, I have quite a lame confession, in that I have never seen Slayer live - I'm always put off by the price, the invariably terrible bands that support them, and the thought of thousands of nu-Slayer boneheads "circle pitting" constantly.

*shudder*

Which sucks, because I know the band themselves would rule.
