Anakin is definitely hilarious. I also found it hilarious that after all this time wondering why he was called "Vader" and hoping to find out, the emperor just seemed to randomly pick it out of the air as it sounded quite cool. George Lucas really is an idiot.

After about 27 seconds of research, the only plausible origin of his name is from the Dutch word for father (vader). Now the Luke - Vader thing now seems so obvious...

Ah, now that could explain why Lucas named him Vader. But the fact still remains that there is no given explanation in the actual story as to why the Emperor called him Vader. Unless Lucas does indeed plan to make episodes 7-9 in which he will reveal to us that Anakin is actually the Emperor's father, as a result of time travelling shenanigans.

I thought all Darth's were named after weapons. Darth Maul. Darth Vader (as in Vader bomb). Apparently in the Star Wars books there are others. I remember one of my friends at school was a proper geek for it.

There's an unseen fortune under their belts
Are golden temples a symbol of God's way
This horde of wealth is a sickening display"

That would make more sense. Although the other also does make sense. But this one's better. Weapons are evil and all that.

Our guitarist Lyall is, that's the only reason I know quite a lot about Star Wars. He's the type of person that knows the name of whatever moon of whatever planet in the Star Wars galaxy.

I'm surprised he has a girlfriend.

If my memory serves me correctly, the sole surviving Sith Lord to emerge from the Sith Wars and start the master and apprentice thing was called Darth Bane. Bane doesn't sound like a weapon to me...

P.S. I think I picked that up from the book Darksaber - it's the only one I ever read, honestly!

It's nothing to do with weapons. Count Dooku's (Christopher Lee) Sith name is Darth Tyrannus.

Best thread hijack ever. I love Star Wars, it is literally the best thing ever.

Grand Moth Tarkin is the fucking man as well.

"You're far too trusting" is the best quote ever. In fact that whole scene is pure pure pure pure joy.
Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

New thread?

I mean, even if James splits the past dozen or so pages of Star Wars goodness from the original thread...

Just started watching Rose Red, a three part Stephen King haunted house thingamajig. 1 hour in and excellent so far. Only another 3 hours or so to go...
Think I'll watch the rest over the next few nights.

Peter Cushing was actually too good to be in Star Wars, hence they had to give him so few lines.

Incidentally both Ewan McGregor and the guy who played Wedge are from my neck of the woods. Someone told me Wedge was dead, I refused to believe it.
