You can't deny the huge impact this record had on the thrash metal scene.Whatever Metallica did everyone followed!! But i'd agree it's not a
perfect by any means.The duo of "welcome.." and "the thing.." spoil the flow of the record in my opinion, and disposable heroes just goes on too long!The rest of the record is excellent though,Battery,Master and Leper Messiah are classics!

What influence did MofP have on the thrash scene. Surely it pales in comparison to KEA's influence?

That's why I like UK Thrash how it is! Well, it'd be nicer if it was recognised a little more and attracted slightly more people into it all.. but yeah, keep it true!!!

It's brilliantly written album, not the best thrash album, not the best metal album just beautifully written. but thats not for everyone.

Lets be honest here the majority of thrash bands around now, UK or otherwise, fit in the same boat.

Everyone is doing it for fun now though, there's basically NO music industry for up and coming thrash bands, but that's what went wrong in the late 80s, there was too much publicity!!!

I totally love all the new thrash bands, some of the stuff from the new bay area scene is immense!! Nothing articualrly original but I love the 'new thrash' sound in general, similar to stuff from the 80s, but with a modern edge and that little something else to make me

I remember when it came out i got it two days early and pissed all my friends off, they all left me for about a week after. I didnt stop listening to it for a week. Ah fond memories.

I think everything metallica did in the 80's influenced the thrash scene,it was like follow my leader!Metallica started writing more complex songs.suddenly everybody else did.They then wrote really long and boring songs(&justice...)and so did everyone else... unfortunatley!!regarding uk thrash now it seems the bands are putting the fun and excitement back into thrash,which is whats needed,give me darkness descends or kill em all anyday over the miserable overlong,over serious time does not heal or & justice for all!

Both "time does not heal" and "and justice for all" are incredible albums. i really don't know why everyones trashes justice all the time. Sure it's not their best effort and the production is wank but songs like blackened and dyers eve are thrash as fuck.

Theres not one song on that album that i don't like, which is more than i can say for kill em all (four horsemen,anesthesia) and lightning (bell tolls and escape).

It's all personal choice i guess but i can't help but think that people are slating justice and even puppets just so they can say that they like metallica up until 1984.

Listening to frayed ends of sanity now and i cant understand how any thrash/metal fan doesn't like this song.

Avantasia The Metal Opera is much better than Metallica.

I do agree that Master of Puppets is overrated. If I'm being honest here, I don't think I've ever felt bothered to actually listen to that album all the way through in one go. Of course on the whole it's an enjoyable metal release, and the title track (which I personally prefer with the orchestra on the S&M CD for added emotional madness), Battery and Orion are classics indeed, but I do find it generally quite boring and I'd much rather listen to And Justice For All. Though when I listen to that album the production makes me want to weep tears of pain. You just can't win really, can you, bloody Metallica. Ride The Lightning is very good though, I'll settle for that.

I wonder what their new album will be like. Shit, probably. Tool are better.

Saying something is overrated sort of implies that you know exactly how eveyone rates it and that you just dont rate it as highly. Its not exactly a definitive statement. Especially since most people who've replied to your thread seem to agree that its overrated. So if they dont rate it that highly, is it still overrated then? Or is it rated correctly now? How will we ever know? Arghhhhhh!

The last thing I wanted to do when I joined this forum is start bangin' on about how much older I am than most of you,what I did first time round.Oh fuck.Anyway,as someone who bought Master on it's day of release(I still have it upstairs somewhere,original mfn pressing) I think most peoples opinions are affected by it's reputation and how long it's been available.It's easy to say that "Kill em all" is better,but without "Master.." it's entirely possible that the first two albums would be lost in the mists of time.Master and "Spreading the Disease" came out about the same time,and their combined impact on the thrash scene at the time,and the metal scene in general cannot be underestimated.Without them we wouldn't be here now.
