James, if you listen to the first track off their first album Orchid, there's no way you wouldn't love that first section. Just listen to that section and then put on the whole Blackwater Park and Ghost Reveries albums, and if you still don't like Opeth, call yourself a hideous beast.

My suggestion would be don't listen to them and stay on the side of pointless spamming and vague hatred of a band.
Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

As much as that is incredibly fun, I thought I ought to take Jonny K up on his advice, so I'm listening to In Mist She Was Standing Now...

It's alright.. hooray. Kind of black metally with some heavy metal feel and obviously the acoustic leanings. Nothing much more than I was expecting.. if this is their optimum offering then I would have to call myself a "hideous beast" I suppose! 6/10

No way, that's why I just said listen to the first bit because I'd thought you'd love the harmony goodness. But it's no way near their best offering! In fact, after what I've just heard, I'll tell you download the new song The Lotus Eater from the roadrunner website immediately. I just listened to a minute of it and I nearly cried.
