Chocolate Bars

Postby James on Mon Apr 21, 2008 11:38 pm

I like chocolate bars. I seem to be eating one every day at the moment, and was thinking about favourites.

My #1 of all time would be SNICKERS - the ideal choice if you're hungry, nice thick outer chocolate layer, and an excellent blend of nutty, nougatty and caramelly centre. Snickers Duos are also great, although the prices vary massively. You could buy 2 normal size Snickers from Tesco for the same price as one Snickers Duo from a small corner shop (and Duo segments are smaller than normal size, I think)

Also honorary mention to LION bars - I've warmed to these lately after never really considering them. Great filling of crunchy wafer, crispy rice krispie stuff and caramel. Also rather filling, and most importantly, one of the few chocolate bars where "KING SIZE" actually means something, as a King Size Lion bar is actually very sizeable.

DOUBLE DECKERS - massively underrated. I love the chewy filling combined with the crunchy chocolateyness.

BOOST - these are actually quite a cool variety. I don't really know if there's anything in their whole 'energy/glucose' ploy, but snack wise they're pretty good, although I hardly ever buy them. The squigy sweet filling is pretty nice, and they are cylindrical which is kind of different.

I realise I haven't mentioned the classic MARS BAR - of course I like them, but I never find myself buying them. I suppose they are the definitive chocolate bar, but I would usually choose any of the above (with the exception of boost) over them. Great choice if you're hungry and want something very sweet and yet chocolatey though I guess.

I may add to this later.

One of the most mundane and unsatisfying of all bars.

I do, awesome. Kit Kat chunky peanut butter is a winning bar. Other than that, most Cadbury stuff is great, or Reese's Nutrageous.

You're going into what I would call "chocolate biscuit" territory there (much like Penguins), although I do agree that Clubs are great. I love fruit and nut Clubs. In fact, I would tend to put Kit Kats in this same category.

Another solid choice is the TWIX - simple and satisfying. Downside is not being very filling, even the double finger ones.

No no, they are clearly two distinct spheres.
