I used to work for a paper and I wrote the 'Dear Deirdre' problems myself. They're taken from a stockpile of fictional problems that the back desk has, then allocated to sub-editors who flesh them out with more info, tantalising titbits and general gumph. Then you write a catchy headline and send it back for print. Hence, never is there EVER a true problem submitted by a real person on ANY problem page.
In fact, most papers have a real email address at the top of their agony aunt page, and if you mail in the people on the back desk read it once a week and laugh at your issues over a coffee. Lovely.
