Having re-watched the Metallica Some Kind of Monster thing at the weekend (and of course had an appointment with my be-jumpered therapist to discuss how I feel about it and how it affects my boundaries) I find myself yearning for something that is like Metallica, but not Metallica, which I've listened to since forever.
I've had a bit of a Heathen phase which is just about the closest I can find (Victims is pretty much AJFA in every respect but more technical).
Anyone got any other decent Metallica clones?

Xentrix always got bitched at for being Metallica clones on their first 2 albums. (Shattered Existence & For Whose Advantage)
So did D.A.M to a lesser extent. (Human Wreckage & Inside Out)
Depends whether you mean 'good' (pre '89) Metallica or 'bad' (post '90) Metallica.

I've got the Xentrix albums, I'll dig em out again. (Scourge was fucking horrible though).
I'll check out D.A.M., ta.
From another thread someone mentioned Slammer?
Found a band called Mantic Ritual too who sound a bit Kill 'Em All.

Scourge was. The first 2 & Dilute to Taste are brilliant though. Shattered Existence still gets regular play in the car.
Forgot about Slammer, yeah, they're worth a listen.

In the late 80's and 90's every man and his dog were influenced by metallica, trying to find something thrash metal unlike metallica might be more of a problem.
A band that inspired them a lot was was metal church, check out the dark or blessing in disguise, listen to how 'watch the children pray' later became sanitaruim on puppets. One of their guitarists even stood in for hetfeild when he broke his arm in a skateboarding accident.

I liked the second Metal Church singer a lot (the guy who was in Heretic too), not so much the first guy. I really rate Metal Church, their songs were generally inventive. The solos were abominable though.

Now that's an interesting thing but "The Dark" (which contains "Watch the Children Play") was released in July 1986. On the other hand, "Master of Puppets" (which contains "(Welcome Home) Sanitarium") was released in February 1986. Now, i wonder who really influence who.

Re: Need a Metallica clone
hands down everyone!!!
Here's come the Outrage!!!
this is my choice for METALLICA CLONE
if not the Japanese accent of the vocal
I think I can fool someone this is some unreleased Metallica songs back in 1985/6
[but don't let the clone word full you, they're one good obscure thrash band anyway]
anyway, Heathen is damn close to Metallica
some of their songs
[listen to that nowhere to turn!!! bring any tears to Metallica fans?]

Re: Need a Metallica clone
here's another one funny band
Amnesia from UK
they are HEAVILY influenced by old Metallica and Megadeth
this one is very interesting
it start out sounds freaking like in my darkest hour
and pay attention on 4:20 that riff, hahaha
doesn't Master Of Puppets have one riff is very similar?

Re: Need a Metallica clone
I randomly bought a Slammer CD (from Tribunal Records in the States) and remembered this thread... they are indeed very Metallica-esque.
