Marshall or Mesa Boogie?

Postby metal dave on Thu Oct 19, 2006 1:12 pm

Which amps do you prefer the sound of?

For me when it comes down to valve heads I'd go Marshall.

Haha, what? I suppose it depends whether you like old skool or new sounding tones but Mesa's are in a different league to Marshalls, Marshalls are real budget compared to Mesa's.

For me, its Mesa's, you know what, contreversial, but I dont like Marshall tones, they sound boring to me, and most low end Marshalls sound HORRIBLE.

i hate to go against the grain, but mesas are the way for me. although i have said before, my prefered amp would be a hughes and kettner. but they are god dam expensive and sound pretty similar to the mesa heads... actually the high end laney stuff sounds great too (i.e. opeth!)

I dont mind what brand amp I play through!!

As long as it's loud and clean, I only need the boss gt-8 and wahey!!!!!!!

I have been using a proper old-skool Carlsbro amp head through a 4x10 cab which is nice, now i gotta use some shitty old PA head and a Celestion 120W speaker!!! :?

I like the sound of Marshalls personally. To me it has a much more raw sound, less generic and with more personality, that's what I think rock music is all about.

Still I understand why someone would want a Mesa rectifier or a Hughes and kettner Tri-amp, that do sound very heavy. I think a case could also be made for Randall and Krank amps. I just think the Marshall has a bit more bite.

And you've only got to look at the bands that use them religiously: AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Black Label Society, Yngwie Malmsteen, Megadeth (I know Mustaine got some Rocktron things recently but it's always been marshall and he still uses Marshall power amps) Slayer, Guns 'N' Roses, I mean we could be here all day!
