I know what you're saying, but when a good band is in the running surely that's a good thing?

jonny_boy34 wrote:Because the majority of bands in these competitions won't have done anything to earn their place supporting a band as massive as Megadeth. It's all down to how many friends they have and how good they are at whoring. And thus all the shit whore-bands will become more successful and ruin the thrash scene, which is basically how popular music gets ruined. For example, The X Factor. I'm not saying this is necessarily true of all the bands - I know Evile are great boys and have worked hard at being great, and watching them live you can see how hard they practice, they're as tight a mother's big boys. But I do hate these things. Iron Maiden didn't support Judas Priest in 1982 because they won an internet competition, they worked fucking hard and became the best band in the world because of it.

Fair comment. Personally, I think it's just a bit of harmless fun. If Evile win, I'll make sure I get to the venue early. If not, then it's drinkies down the road at Scruffy's until Megadeth come on.

Yeah, I mean in the particular case of Evile I don't really mind because I do think they deserve it, but in general I don't think a lot of bands do, and it always seems to be the shitty bands who are more popular for some reason who do well out of these silly things. I just think it's a bit unfair and an insult to the bands who do work their bollocks off to get where they are instead of just trying to enter competitions all the time. I do hope Evile win this though, they are a rare exception to the rule.

If anyone's followed Panic Cell for the last few years you'll know that they always try and get on shit like this and it just gives me the impression that they're not prepared to work hard for anything. I'm not blowing my own trumpet (I am), but the only reason we got to support Napalm Death in our home city is because we made sure we played fucking horrible venues all the time infront of nobody just so eventually enough people would know who the fuck we are - it took 5 odd fucking years, but we got there in the end. I can imagine if I'd had lost that support slot to some cunt who'd just won a competition, I'd be fucking livid. Music should be about rewarding the best and most hard working bands, instead of letting idiots get 15 minutes of fame with some shitty competition. Put it this way, I could make a one man band of me screaming my head off and bashing a metal pole against a piece of meat - as long as I had 500,000 friends I'd be supporting Megadeth.

I think this may well be the most articulate and well put argument I've ever seen from you.

Ok I'm pretty sure this means jackshit now. Speedtheory went from 2% yesterday to 20% today and are now in the lead. Scam and a half from some bigwigs.

Something's definitely dodgy here. I got a load of my mates to vote for Evile and they didn't budge from 16%. Now all of a sudden this lot overtake them in the space of a couple of hours from nowhere. My guess is that Dave's heard all the bands and is scared of being blown offstage by Evile.

Oh yeah and Engel are way in the lead for the Metal Hammer thing, not that that even counts cause it was a big load of absolute bullshit, apart from Evile.

We've learnt an important lesson here. You can't take on the man, because the man is a dick. Unless you storm the winter palace.
