Scalloped Guitar

Postby metaldazza on Sat Jun 20, 2009 7:38 pm

Has anyone seen a guitar like this before. This instructable shows how to do it.... is it better then a normal fret board? Seems a bit crazy to me.

I don't understand why anyone would want to do that, but then I know next to nothing about guitars.

Would it not just make it into a portable electric sitar?
Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

For some reason I think it will make it's really bouncy and tiring to play.

Malmsteen uses a scalloped fretboard and I think Vai has his 20-24 fret scalloped as well. Its meant to make playing faster easier, because it reduces the friction of your fingertips on the fretboard. I played malmsteens sig in a guitar shop once, didnt really like it. Shredding is shit anyway.

I did it to the top 12 frets of an old guitar I had years ago - I really liked it at the time but it's been so long I wouldn't have a clue how to describe what the benefits were!! Right about MAAAALMSTEEEEN though.

ive played a scalloped guitar several times and well the guitar string doesnt even go near the wood on a normal guitar so to me it doesnt feel any different but i do think it looks really really cool and just is a defining feature on a guitar.

Never played a guitar with scalloped frets, but I was always told that it just makes leads and bends easier. Apparently they're a fucking bitch to pinch on.
