Idiots who rated St. Anger so highly because the band had been though 'stuff' I reckon. Most bands will go through much more shit when making an album - even Metallica have done in the past. How anyone couldn't find fault with that album is beyond me. I'd have given it 2/10 and risked being unpopular with the editor myself.

Wow five years since st. boring!

Thing is as sudo-thrash is getting popular this album will sell whether we hate it or think its just ok (too much of a push to say it will be good), so Metallica think they will have "returned"
INTO THE REACTOR!

I'm always unpopular with the editor. He must think I'm a right cunt. He'd be right,

Can you not just go over the Editor's head and publish what you really think anyway?

I know what you mean. I reckon Death Magnetic will sound like what a Trivium album would be like if they tried to be good and stopped pretending to be Japanese. Silly childish rubbish masked in modern fake thrash basically.

30 second clips of all the tracks: http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbe ... mID=103780

They all sound shit. What a shame.

Well, i can hear more of a AJFA influence there than on anything they have done since the black album, but its definately not a return to their roots as it has been touted. Not even nearly!!!

I think you'll find that The Metallica Purist considers the first four full albums as "their roots". Shall I ring Woolies, or shall you? ;-)

Weren't Metallica's roots just rehashed Saxon songs, though? It annoys me that Metallica or any band, for that matter, would go about saying they're getting back to their roots. They wrote their original stuff as angst-ridden teens who drank too much and snorted cocaine. Now they're middle-aged, hippy millionaires who go to rehab and therapy for everything. They're pretty much the antithesis of what they were 25 years ago so I think it's pretty stupid to think they can just go back to 'where they came from'. Going back to your roots is also practically an admission that the band has gone shit. Whilst we can say that, I don't think a band should in normal circumstances.
