thoughts? I think it's just a desperate attempt to win back some votes, Labour know theyre going to get a telling in the next election. The way theyre ignoring a report and recommendations from drug experts is pretty typical of them too

Re: Cannabis to be reclassified as class B
Yeah, it's just really stupid. The people that are putting this through are basically saying that they know more about cannabis than the people who've actually studied it and recommended it be classified as a Class C, which is a load of complete rubbish. I hate to sound like your typical right-wing bitter old man, but the police force needn't be wasting their time with banging up cannabis users when there's too many other problems to worry about.

Labour seem to have forgotten about the fact prisons are already overcrowded as they are, morons!

This is excellent news for all of us law-abiding citizens that cannot stand the degenerate goons that do drugs.
We may have to have an individual thread on Labour. I was watching Holyrood Live (the equivalent of Westminster Live) and they just kept going on about Labour being fucked. I don't see it that much but am getting pretty sick of hearing about it nonetheless.

It's just really annoying how they ignore things like the actual long term effects of cannabis use for what they think to be completely right. I'm getting sick of the government basically telling people what they can and can't do in the most trivial of ways, because that's what it is. I enjoy an occasional joint now and again and the government is basically saying "no, not any more you don't" as soon as this bill comes through. It was the exact same thing with that fucking banning of 'extreme porn'. The fact that a consenting couple could get into bother for taking photos of each other tieing themselves up or some shit is completely insane.

This is the sort of crap thats influencing government policy. Poor old dears who read the Mail/Sun and have had a bad experience with weed. Why doesn't the government listen to the bloody experts who've told them that it should be kept as a class C? Tabloid sensationalism wins through again.
Anita Wilson, 51, believes her family life has been destroyed because of the affects of her ex-partner smoking cannabis.
As a result she would like cannabis to be reclassified as a class A drug, but if that cannot happen she supports the reclassification to a class B.

To be fair, the bashing of the Government seen in this thread thus far is on a par with tabloid guff. Surely the opinions of experts are completely irrelevant to policy when the Government has a fairly rigid agenda to pursue?
'The Government should be catching paedos instead of banning harmless drugs!'
At least what Labour are doing at the moment isn't nearly as superficial as the re-branding of the Tories under Cameron. A green logo?! Get to sodomy!
At the end of the day, any Government is going to get slagged rotten in a two-party system, especially so when it has been in power for 11 years.

The catching paedos thing was clearly a joke. I think the other points are valid. I understand those raised as:
1) It's merely a vote-pulling tactic and not a genuinely felt Labour policy (hence the declassification).
2) It's pandering to tabloid sentimentalism and sensationalism.
3) It's an inefficient and excessive use of the law and the prison system.
However, I do agree with your latter points. The Tory re-branding is naff and contrived and a political party is going to wane in popularity after a decade or so. In my opinion there has been an evolution to a consensus, one-ideology system in this country from Thatcher - reaching fruition with the revamping of Labour. Politics in this country (in the mainstream and beyond) has become embarrassingly petty.

It couldn't possibly be worse then it is over here.
But, could someone explain to me what class A, B and C drugs are? We don't use a "ranking system" for drugs over here so.

Well, it's "legal", but only if you have under 3 grams and if you're over 18 years old. You can't use it in public places, only at home. But it's kind of a stupid law on weed over here, you can't buy it .. wth? So, you're actually forced to homegrow your weed, you can own 1 plant ... stupid law. But i think it'll become even stricter in just a matter of a few months, since the conservatives are in power now.
And i agree with GoreBastard, btw.
