What do you reckon, do you like it when re-masters of classic albums are beefed up or do you prefer it that they left it well alone?
Thread inspired by me having Testament re-masters (good forgotten gems with beefed up sound) and buying bonded by blood (bad sound but has a place in history).
What is your take on remastered albums?

Wow dude, difficult question.. It depends, I would say! Thinking of Testament, I would really like to have a remastered version of "Souls of black", with a less noisy snare. Thinking of "Bonded by blood", it would be a shame, not listen to the original..!
And if you're not a metal head then you might as well be dead...

Yeah, not sure here too. Was happy with the new megadeth stuff when they did it but I feel Dave went a bit far by changing it around in places. As for the risk re-masters, you couldn't polish a turd.

I think sometimes it's probably for the best. It annoys me that you can't crank stuff up like the early Anthrax albums for example, because they are rubbish quality. I think the Megadeth ones were a success, bar some of the ridiculous fiddling abouts he did.

Our Beer bitches blood is just before machine heads the blackening on my Itunes and you have to turn us up a bit as it's a DIY recording. Then machine head kicks in and the production PWNS us. If we could do it in a few years time then deffo.

H.O.D. opening for Machine head on your Itunes... not bad, eh?! btw - if I hear BBB now, I always think about BEERS... and never about BONDED...
But seriously, Beers... is great stuff. "Eyezabeams.." I dig the most!

You know what? I never noticed the BBB connection between HOD and exodus even though I just mentioned them in post one.
Wow, now that is proper thrash geek trivia.

I bought Obituarys Slow We Rot remastered, and the vocals are way too loud on it. Got a few Megadeth remasters. Rust In Peace is the worst of those remasters, the origional is better there.

Depends on which I hear first.
I've only heard the remasters of stuff like Led Zeppelin II and can't image them sounding any... better. But I'll cry if I hear the remastered version of Take No Prisoners again.
That was a fucking daft idea.

Personally I like to own the originals. I've got the original Beneath the Remains, but I wouldn't swap it for the re-mastered version. Same with Arise.
Even if it sounds better, there's just something about having the original that's bob on. Fucking bob on mate.

The remaster (2002) or KIMB is proper good, everything sounds crisp and a hell of a lot nicer than the original, also it doesnt sound weak and lame, and you can listen to it on headphones and actually hear it!!!!
One album that NEVER needed remastering was Reign In Blood!!!! Anyone got the original CD of that? It's amazing, I was so surprised at how much better than the remaster it sounded! It's like it was actually produced well rather than having all the volume nobs turned to full!!!!

Re: What is your take on remastered albums?
I'd absolutely LOVE the first three Metallica albums to get a remaster, the production is absolutely awful on them. I would include Justice, but meh, that's funny enough as it is, so might as well just leave it.
