Old Peculiar is great.
Broadside and Pride are solid, but the rest are pretty mediocre.

How is ale snobbery annoying?

If you want to drink beer just to get drunk and like lagers, whatever. I find that quite stupid though

If you want to sit down enjoy a brew where someone actually put effort, thought, and time to make it what it is, what's wrong with that?

I'm sure most of you would make the exact same argument regarding metal to popular mainstream music, so why do you spend so much time listening to metal, researching new bands, and spending loads of time with them instead of just buying was easy to get?

Ale snobbery is annoying because it's so one-way. I don't deny I like an ale every now and then but I much prefer good lagers. Ale connoisseurs, on th'other hand, are seldom, in my experience, willing to do the same and drink shit-loads of lager.

Your second quote is something I'd also pick out. By implying that ales aren't mass-produced, lagers can't be of the same quality?

My dad and uncles are all big ale fans. I was drinking with them recently, and they were drinking this Scottish-ale made out in Renfrewshire yet I ask for Chimay Blue. When they notice it's 9%, they instantly liken it to Tennent's Super. I tried the bitter they were drinking as well and it was about 3.8%. I need to actually realise I'm drinking alcohol to enjoy it. I don't really like watery piss.

It actually depends on what mood I'm in and what I'm eating if I'm drinking with food. If it's cold and I need something to warm me up, the dark ales are brilliant, but I generally choose light ales if I'm just drinking casually.

With food, if it's white meat then I'd go for a light IPA-style of ale but if it's red meat then I'd go for a dark, rich ale.

The thing I find with ales is that it's hard to find a decent ale that you can buy pretty much anywhere.

Pot noodle is 350 calories and I have that as a meal, just sayin' like.

Went to a killer ales pub in Birmingham this weekend with the Deceptortrons, called The Wellington. There were FIFTEEN ales on tap, of various strengths and colours.

Particularly nice ones were Fireside, which was really smooth and had a caramelly colour and flavour, and Dave's Brew (or something similar), a light beer with a really nice (but subtle) fruity edge.

Fuller's ESB is probably the best bottled beer to by in your typical supermarket I'd say.

By the way, I'm well up for another Essex beer BBQ! I'm back for a few days from 20th - 24th March!

We shall have to consult the stars and see when the are right.

I know its not really an ale, but does anyone else like Staropramen?

I think it's literally lovely stuff, for a European lager.
