Yeah, well as I said I just basically like the idea of an old album being re-recorded with modern production nice, I'd just find it very interesting to compare how that kind of music is recorded now to exactly the same thing in olden-boys style. To use an example I've mentioned a couple of times now, Heavy Metal Thunder - I love comparing Crusader on that to the original version I have, they're the same song but the difference in production makes it feel completely different, and it gives me nice ideas about production in general really. I thought a great album like Bonded By Blood might be great (or at least interesting if nothing else) to hear as a modern thingybob. But obviously I didn't realise how rubbish modern Exodus was, and so I must be educated.
Having grown up with BBB, i have to say it was one of my fave thrash lps during my teens. In my earlier reply i said i thought it would be ok if they just remixed pauls vocals, and i stand by that point. They could do an amzing lp if they re-recorded it but there are many factors. It depends on what sort of sound they go for, because no matter what anyone says, the album does sound dated now, and if they redid it and fucked up with it, then dont play it and play the old one instead. I defo think its only viable if they keep pauls vocals tho.

Well yeah, they're not exactly destroying the old version because it still exists. They're just recording a pointless album, some people will like and some won't, and those who don't still have the choice to listen to the original.
As for the Reign In Blood comparison, that album in particular has a better production than BBB, and Slayer's sound today isn't that different from then, it's just their music that's gotten worse. In fact, if they re-recorded RIB, it would probably sound almost exactly the same except with more modern sounding drums, and would be completely pointless. An album like BBB could benefit from a re-recording if modern Exodus have a good sound, but if they don't, then it will be shit and pointless.
In a positive comparision, if Opeth re-recorded My Arms, Your Hearse with Watershed-style production, I would be absolutely over the moon.

Musical integrity and cash-ins aside, it's not very respectful to erase the memory of your old singer to a new generation of thrashers. If he was still alive then fair game.

But Reign in Blood was more than an album. It captured a moment. Plus, there is NO WAY that Slayer could record it with the same energy and intensity now. Maybe more accurate, then, would be Kill Em All. Think what nobheads Metallica are now. They should leave that album alone, even if it would (theoretically) benefit from a nicer, newer production.
I do agree that BBB does have a dated sound now but, in context of the other albums released at the time and everything else, it is still nigh-untouchable (untouchable in my opinion) of thrash debuts.

For me, when it comes to albums it doesn't matter that they are "dated" - of course they are going to sound like a product of their time, but that doesn't make it a bad sound! 70s Priest is "dated", but lots of bands would probably kill to get that warm, natural sound. I don't think the slightly vintage edge of Bonded By Blood makes it a weaker thrash album, in fact it arguably gives it half of its character and thrash vibe!

I don't know if it adds to the album much but the important thing is it doesn't take anything away.
