Whenever I buy a CD, I back it up on my hard drive and then usually lose the CD somewhere. I'm gonna have to try to find them all again to put on my new drive.

Nothing In Return (Walk Away) is unbelievable and makes me feel like a powerful man. Good lord!

The more I listen, the better this album gets.

Don't break the oath...play it loud!

Been listening to this quite a bit now and while I agree, I am still disappointed. I reckon it is their least brilliant album.

It took me quite a few lessons to establish what was wrong but I knew something wasn't right. I have now realised the complete lack of solos. The first five tracks have very little lead guitar work and there is more incorporated into the later songs (where the album, on the whole improves). While the leads in Down songs have never been absolutely vital and not masterclasses in guitar playing they have often been integral and always tastefully, nicely done. The problem with songs like On March the Saints and NOD is, as great as those songs are (especially the former), their bridge parts do add less to the song than a solo would. Still, Never Try, Mourn and the awesome Pillamyd have solos and seem more like complete songs. I am hardly a solo addict but I can't see why Down have done this and I think it is a mistake.

Oh, and there are not as many bull-busting riffs on this album. Many good ones but Losing All, Ghosts Along the Mississippi, Lifer, There's Something On My Side... you see.

Caps, I agree with you. I've now over listened to the album. It's a good album, but I'll be honest here and say I wanted more from it. Still a great listen though.

I did notice actually that there weren't many solos. But I don't think it makes any difference. I suppose it would if they were there. But I didn't really notice much at first anyway, I still think most of the songs are quite fantastic. Obviously it's not as good as the first 2 albums, but on it's own its still a fantastic album in its own right. I'm still listening to it loads and it hasn't disappointed me at all. Even Mourn, which I thought was an average song, is growing on me now.

I would agree that some of the riffs could be more memorable, that's what makes it not as good as the first two. But compared to every other album that comes out these days, it's still fucking fantastic. It's pretty much what I expected and what I wanted and I'm very happy with it.

But then again, maybe my opinion will change the more I listen to it. It still feels like a lovely new album to me, so once the excitement goes down I may find it less brilliant. Like I did with A Matter of Life & Death and Dance of Death. But hopefully not to the same extent.

Compared to every other mainstream (ie K! reviewed) album, yes. However there are many good CDs coming out. Not least Evile. Napalm Death's release this year was fucking nasty in the best possible way. Ministry have just released an album that I'm pretty sure is going to be great. As for bands the mainstream mags leech off, yeah they're the best of the bunch.

I would like to explore the Napalm Death a bit more. I haven't heard much, I just saw them live about 6 years ago and thought they were brilliant.
