We did, but we employed my close friend from college who is an absolute shredder on the bass. You would hate him, he uses 6 strings...

Which string does he use more, the extra high one, or the extra low one?

Nope, I played a 5 string a little bit, and a 4 string fretless, but never a 6 string. Good for chords or something? Otherwise I don't get the higher string: it seems unlikely that the 5 extra semitones are useful. The tone of the higher string on its own must be pretty limp..? I'll give it a go one day I'm sure
