Death Metal recomendations.

Postby STD_Caps on Wed Feb 07, 2007 6:56 pm

I was wondering if anyone had some. I like if fast and heavy but I like it to be listenabe and not all out noise fest or crazy-ass structure so you don't know what's going on. Basically, the old-school sound or possibly the more melodic stuff.

In terms of the genre I rate and own:

Death
Entombed
At the Gates (if you call em DM)
Autopsy
Carcass

Bought Deicide's self-titled but left round a friend's and ain't got it back. Lost my Nile CD but only miss it on occassions. Find Dying Fetus a bit average and CC have never really floated my boat. Bands I have been meaning to check out:

Dismember
Morbid Angel
Bolt Thrower
Unleashed
Orbituary

I seem to like to list in fives so I'll leave it there. Let's have your views on all the bands and some album recommendations.
"And what about the churches and all their wealth
There's an unseen fortune under their belts
Are golden temples a symbol of God's way
This horde of wealth is a sickening display"

Morbid Angel - Blessed Are The Sick (Altars Of Madness is also great)
Obituary - Slowly We Rot (for me, the standard)
Dismember - Where Ironcrosses Grow (also Like An Ever-Flowing Stream)
Atheist - Piece Of Time (technical death metal)
Bolt Thrower - Those Once Loyal (their most recent and excellent)
Carnage - Dark Recollections (the band that spawned Dismember and Michael Amott from Carcass)
Malevolent Creation - The Ten Commandments
Witchery - Restless And Dead (thrash/death mix)
Vital Remains - Dechristianize (best death metal album in years for me)

There's more but that's a good start.

If your into Carcass at times of Heartwork,I suggest General Surgery - The Left Hand Pathology.
It's considered to be grind but it kicks ass ,check it out.

Some of these have already been mentioned, but I'll put them again for emphasis :) I don't own every album by all these bands, so I won't make any album recommendations. In alphabetical order (cos I'm sad):

1349
Amon Amarth (viking metal really, but never mind)
Anata
Bloodbath
Carnal Forge
Chaos Incarcerated
Cryptopsy
Dark Tranquility (melodic death)
Decapitated
Deicide
Exhumed
The Forsaken
Hate Eternal
Hypocrisy
Insision
Kronos
Necrophagist - their guitar solos are fucking awesome :rockdevil:
Nile
Sarpanitum
SYL (dunno if it's DM, but it's pretty immense!)
Unleashed
Vader

Bugger - forgot Massacre (although someone else posted it). "From Beyond" is a classic.

Impaled are a really good band to get into if you're into more melodic stuff. They have simpler song structures and stuff too. I'd definately look into some of there stuff, such as the albums 'Mondo Medicale' and 'Death After Life'. Great sense of humour too.
