Re: Iron Maiden - AMOLAD/Live Shows/ everything else discussion
Ridiculous. A bloody homeless person brought that up last night in Camden when he was trying to get money off me, Jamie and Faraz (which is hilarious in itself), I said to him that Rod Smallwood said on the official site that the whole thing has been wildly over exaggerated, there was a bit of trouble with some idiots outside trying to get in, but there weren't actually 'riots' in the actual concert. But it's a shame everything gets blown out of proportion as it always does in this stupid world.

Let's just take a moment here to talk about how amazing The Loneliness Of The Long Distance Runner is.

YES. Stunning song, I can't really describe how good it is.

Yes, I was listening to some of it today. Just wonderful songs everywhere. Loneliness and Deja Vu are songs of such top quality that can't even be believed. Adrian Smith's solo in Stranger In A Strange Land is like having an orgasm in your ears. And the title track... goodness me, the title track. The little repeated guitar riff that comes just before the chorus makes me want to weep with joy.

Stranger in a Strange Land is my joint favourite Maiden solo along with the one in Powerslave; the reason is that there is awesome stuff going on with the bass as well, so everything works perfectly together.

Yeah, the Powerslave solo is definitely one of the best things ever written, the whole section is just mindblowingly amazing. When the fast bit kicks in it makes you want to run around everywhere, then the harmonies in the middle are lovely, then the bass goes back down low for some more soloing fun and it's like "KAPLAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!" and unbelievable.

CHRIST CHRIST CHRIST!
I got the Flight 666 live album (naughtily downloaded it, but I'm going to buy the DVD soon so it's ok), and I think it might actually be the best live Maiden album ever. Apart from the fade in/outs as it's from loads of different gigs, but at least it's still the whole setlist as it was. It just sounds amazing. Sooo much better than Death On The Road, and even Rock In Rio, production-wise, and the setlist is absolutely amazing. It's just wonderful to have modern-sounding versions of these songs, with triple guitar joys, that sound amazing. It's got that wonderful Iron Maiden energy on it everywhere, and Bruce Dickinson sounds AMAZING!! His singing is unbelievable. If you compare this to Live After Death, it's unbelievable how much better he sounds on Flight 666. And the fact that the songs are played a bit slower is wonderful - on Live After Death, some of the songs are way too fast, especially Revelations, which you want to be slow and joyful really. So it's all just wonderful. I bloody love it. I love Iron Maiden.

I watched flight 666 last night, it was emotional, I wish Nicko McBrain was my dad and I wish I was "Steve Harris daughter".

What is that song where you hear Bruce take an almighty gulp of air in? Think it may be Back in the Village, not sure though...

I don't recall them playing Back in the Village on that tour... might be wrong though.
