The Cossack dance-type stuff? I love Cossack music like. Me and Lee Altus used to talk about it quite a lot on the Heathen boards what with him being born near a historically Cossack area (Kazakhstan I think).

Good times.

Aye, I think he moved from the Soviet Union (at the time) to Frisco when he was 12 years old. It's weird because you can't hear any Russianness in his accent but the same is true of Mila Kunis (the voice of Meg from Family Guy) who moved to CA from Ukraine when she was 11.

I can't really remember how me and Lee got on to talking about Russia, I think it was because I said I was learning Russian at Uni. The Heathen board was great when it re-opened because it was like a question and answer session between Lee, and me and LeperMessiah who posts there.

Oh yeah, I also remember him telling me that people used to do Cossack dances in the pit during Breaking the Silence.

Thats why it has that awesome guitar harmony part in it! Ahhhh, it all makes sense now. I always thought "hmmm, thats a bit random for a thrash band like Heathen, having a middle-east style melody".

Yeah.

Same with Dying Season. I asked Lee what type of instrument it was on the intro expecting an obscure Russian sitar but it was...

A FUCKING BANJO!

Demolition Hammer - Skull Fracturing Nightmare

Quite a good song to play, no fast picking, just constant heavyness :D
