Iron Maiden i have noticed pops up in like every other thread whether it be about AMOLAD and when it was played live in its entirety,
Iron maidens stage shows seems to come up aswell (although mainly for good reasons) just thought that any old threads about this are probs dead and buried nowadays so why not start a new one.
Personally i love Iron Maiden and have been lucky enough to see them twice within a week on the more recent tour, once in Italy and then a few days later at Twickenham. Personally i thought that the show at Gods of metal was slightly better just cause it was first time and cause european fans have a better atmosphere then british fans.
Regarding AMOLAD i am not a huge fan. I like the first two songs....and Reincarnation of Benjimen breig (after the fucking long intro) but compared to Brave new World and most of iron maidens back catalouge its a terrible album....do i enjoy Judas Priests latest album more...maybe?
Oh and i cant decide....
Are Judas Priest better live then Iron Maiden...i think they might be...such a fine line

Re: Iron Maiden - AMOLAD/Live Shows/ everything else discussion
Iron Maiden are one of the best bands ever of anything always. I play a game called, "don't listen to them for a while". Then when you do, you shit your pants and you don't bother calling for your mother to change your pants, because it's a good poo. A poo of sheer wondermint. Listening to Somewhere In Time after ages is like, godly. Or after listening to Bruce for ages you slap Paul-era on and be reminded that the wah pedal was once actually a good idea.
They're top notch live aswell, whether you're watching Janick spin his guitar round and dance like he's actually got ants in his pants, or you're daftly amused by how angry Bruce is getting, or the fact that his lyrics are so incredibly scattable, or even Nicko's 'big drum roll' face that's clearly saying "I'm a complete mental case".
Basically, Maiden are mentioned in every other thread because they're SO BLOODY AWESOME.
And no, Priest aren't better live. Or on CD. Get a grip.

The fact that I've never seen Iron Maiden live really upsets me, they're one band I really must see at some point.
As for A Matter of Life and Death, I really liked some of it, For the Greater Good of God is ridiculous but still amazing. I really don't think they'll ever make anything as amazing as Brave New World again, that album is just incredible.

Hahahaha, I couldn't have said any of that better myself, well done Lev.
Fucking hell you know, I've been going on about how much I don't like AMOLAD, but because of all this talk I've just put on For The Greater Good of God and I'm feeling so hilariously excited! WAAAAAA!! AGAIN TELL ME WHAT LIFE IIIIIIIIIIIIIIS!!!11 Spencer is right about that song, it's so bloody ridiculous, but it's amazing! I do still find some of that album really boring though, but at the end of the day it is an Iron Maiden album and Iron Maiden are the best band ever in the whole world.
As for the Priest vs Maiden argument.... well, how about this. Maiden's worst album is AMOLAD. Actually, no, I think it's The X Factor. Anyway, Judas Priest's worst album is definitely Nostradamus, followed closely by Ram It Down (I don't count the non-Halford album as Priest albums). Compare how bad Judas Priest's bad stuff is to Iron Maiden's bad stuff, and there's your answer. As for live, somehow Judas Priest just manage to blow my face and balls off and make me want to cry, in a way that for some reason even Iron Maiden don't do. But with Iron Maiden, they're just so amazing, they're the best. With Judas Priest, they pick better setlists, but the comedy (mostly unintentional) is what makes it so much fun as well, but I don't know if that's a good thing really... What I'm saying basically is, Iron Maiden preform much better than Priest live, have more energy, have better stage shows... But when you see Halford on stage, it's like seeing Jesus Christ, if he was real. I don't know, I'm undecided. Musically I definitely prefer Maiden, but live, I think they just about equal each other.
And Spencer is also right about Brave New World. It's hands down the greatest heavy metal album of this decade.

AMOLAD is only naff because you're all comparing it to the rest of Maiden. Just...as an album...it's still sodding magic.

Re: Iron Maiden - AMOLAD/Live Shows/ everything else discussion
I wouldn't call it magic... but it's okay. It seems I like it more than James and Craig do, but not quite as much as you. To be fair, I did actually love it for the first few weeks when I bought it. But then I got annoyed with all the songs using the same chord progression (E/C/G/D), and These Colours Don't Run using that chord progression for the Verse, Bridge and Chorus! I mean bloody hell, I know it can work as a lovely musical bit of fun, but that's just too much for me, that's just plain laziness! But now, I'm listening to The Legacy, and I shall then listen to Brighter Than A Thousand Suns, and The Pilgrim, then Benjamin Breeg, then Lord of Light, and I think shall thoroughly enjoy it. The rest the album for me is a bit too average. And yes, I do compare it to the rest of Maiden because it's a Maiden album and should be up to Maiden standards! It's not like only the classic albums are good, Brave New World was amazing and some of DOD was really good as well, so why shouldn't be able to make another classic unbelievable album? It's not like Metallica, where we just expect every album to be rubbish now and just like them live, Maiden are still amazing. I hope the next album is a bit more wonderful, I won't use to word original because it's Maiden, but I just want something a bit more musically amazing, and maybe some shorter, more classic songs as well. Hopefully they've gotten all this 'prog' stuff out of their system and will do an amazing album. Or hopefully they'll realise prog doesn't mean "slow acoustic intro/verse/chorus/verse/chorus/long middle section/chorus/pointless slow acoustic outro" and write some more amazing epics like they did on Brave New World.
I love Iron Maiden and I love talking about Iron Maiden. This is brilliant.

Exactly the opposite for me. I cried every night at the thought that Maiden had turned crap. But it grew on me, and now the only thing I don't like is the fact that every song starts with an acoustic and Bruce borderling whispering. The chorus' in every song still makes me shout like a little prat. THESE COLOURS DON'T RUN, FROM COLD BLOODY WAAARRR!!

Hahaha, good god, These Colours Don't Run. I just can't get myself liking that song, The middle section's alright, but it's just ridiculous! But you know what, The Longest Day is pretty amazing, I completely forgot about that song. The bridge of the song, even though it's once again an E/C/G/D section, is amazing because of the vocal melody. THE WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATER IS RED, WITH THE BLOOOOOOOOOOOOD OF THE DEAD! Amazing. And the middle section in that song is fucking brilliant, with the machine gun drumming bit thing, and the joyous heroic guitar harmonies, amazing! Indeed, this album isn't actually that bad. Just a bit boring in places. Out of the Shadows, now that's a rubbish song. I don't like that one. But on the whole, it's not that bad.

Re: Iron Maiden - AMOLAD/Live Shows/ everything else discussion
I loved it first few weeks but got very bored of it... Maiden while do Epics well a full album of them wasnt neccisarry. I hope that we get something amazing for next album as it could (very likely) be the last. I rember Halford saying they are done with fooling around on conecpt albums so hopefully they will bring somehthing badass out aswell.
Problem with AMOLAD when i was starting to recover from not liking it the guitarist was obssessed with it and kept trying to get us to cover songs off of it...and i was like no if we cover anything it has to be early years maiden...not bloody Longest day, thats an awful cover idea and i probs cant play it lol. Then we argued constantly about whether we would cover stuff from this album untill we got nuthing done. I wanted to do running free or wrathchild but no...
I even learnt bits of wicker man and bits of ghost of navigator to coax him away from AMOLAD....subsequently i quit that band but still lol
John that sucks man....you should def try and catch it although i think they are all late showing Try catch it on the day between hammerfest and Leeds??

Re: Iron Maiden - AMOLAD/Live Shows/ everything else discussion
I'm listening to some AMOLAD tracks now and my opinion hasn't changed much. I do like epic Maiden moments in moderation, but not a whole album of it like Josh says.
Riffs - THAT chord progression pisses me off so much on this album: they've used it on most albums but at least they worked it into well-crafted songs. Most of the time here it just angers me, totally lazy. There isn't much in the way of good lead riffs either, just predictable little runs here and there.
Structures - totally agree with Jon, I'm so fed up of the "acoustic/bass intro - boring verse/chorus repeats with a dash of epicness - outro", they exhausted that enough already on Dance of Death.
Drums - Nicko's alright but a bit stuck in the rut with his classic ride cymbal groove.
Bass - come on Steve!! There doesn't seem to be anything interesting in the basslines at all!
Vocals - Bruce has some quite nice moments, although at other moments his weird pronunciation annoys me. "For the greater good OF GAAAD! For the greater good OF GAAAD!" (not helped by that ridiculous production)
The only thing I really like about it are the parts that are obviously Adrian Smith's work, like the Different Worlds solo, which ROCKS big time. In fact that is easily my favourite track, because it isn't preoccupied with an attempt to be "epic". Still a relatively bland rock number, but at least it's bloody enjoyable.
So I still think it's mostly a pile of old wank, not a patch on Brave New World.

Bruce still is the best singer in the world though, I can't believe it. He takes the crown from Dio, because Dio still has to have the key lowered in his songs when he sings them live, even though he is indeed a magical lord of men. Bruce is pretty much the only old man in classic brilliant heavy metal that doesn't need to do that now!

Yeah it's a fair point, whilst historically Bruce comes behind a couple of other singers in my ranking, he is still very impressive live. He doesn't attempt the mental Number of the Beast era notes, but compared to Halford he is still very much on it (not that I'm unimpressed by Halford).

No ....noone will take the crown from dio.
DIO!!!!! when i saw him live it was fucking incredible.
Also im not sure if Halford is still a better singer then Bruce...Halford technically was...with this 4 octave voice or whatever...but these days, probs not so much.
Dio and Bruce probs come in on equar par- but maybe dio just out ahead cause Stand up and shout is a brilliant song lol
