Hey,

Do any of you guys have any tips on how to improve my technical abilty on guitar. I havnt been playing that long and am looking mainly for rhythm tips, but alot of my riffs are simple progressions and i havnt really begun to stick single note pull off/hammer on stuff into my riffs or any kind of scale work etc..

Wondering if you had any tips, stuff to learn to get the hang of it or any exercises to learn so that i can improve. I know that alot of my stuff is just missing little bits and im sure it requires just a little bit of skill that i do not have yet.
I know how i want things to sound in my head, but i just cant seem to get it onto the fretboard...

Besides just practising and downloading a load of random tat on the net i can't really suggest anything.

Just play all day and try and work other band's songs out by ear.

Be a sad cunt like me and study Dream Theater songs all day, it certainly helps your technique.

Technical ability bah just become a drone doom guitarist!

In all seriousness its practice, learn songs if its too hard learn something easier, i started learning misfits songs then moved on until you get a good feel for what sounds are where and speeding up and remember you can always improve...I've been playing 5 years yet soloing for me is still a pain, though saying that I've never had much interest in doing sweeping noodley solos and all that.

marty friedman told me one of the most important things ever about guitar and it was when practicing never just doodle on guitar while not really paying attention to it, the best way to improve is to concentrate on how you play, concentrate on every single note and pay attention when practising, it is better to concentrate and play 1 hour a day rather than play 8 hours and just wank your guitar neck, also use a metronome when doing speed exercises, also look at how your favourite player plays and try to copy how he holds his pick and how he has his fingering, play along to loads of easy songs (while headbanging) and you should gte good good in no time

Ya i am not intestered in being a solist, playing some fast single string stuff would be awesome, but that just needs me to sit with a few scales and then learn where those notes are on the fret board!

I find playing with a metronome sooo taxing...i dunno but its saps the life out of me and i swear i just cannot hear the clicks and always hear a third lol.
