That's just silly. His opponent is black. It's always hilarious watching reactionary American news channels like Fox:

Newscaster - So, who do you think you will be voting for?
Average Person From South Carolina - McCain, for sure. I'm not sure why but he just seems more American to me...

McCain is fucking old, though. I reckon the fact he'll probably not live long enough to do a second term could lose him a lot of votes.
