I had five hours sleep, i feel funky.
Very good time had by all i'd imagine, well done to Jamie as ever.

Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

Shame Coke didnt seem to enjoy himself too much!!! The mixture of appauling sound for your set and his technical problems, as well as missing his lines a couple of times left him looking well less than happy. You all gave 101% effort though, and i did enjoy your set, so at least some of the ghosts of that horrific set in leeds 87 have been laid to rest!!!!

Re: return of the apple core: GAMA BOMB,LAWNMOWER DETH,VIRUS + 1
My honest opinions on last night.
(Sorry, Virus...)
METAL MESSIAH
Another bunch of oldboys trying to recapture their youth and very nearly succeeding. A very good performance marred only by the singer's seeming lack of commitment, appearing withdrawn and not entirely sure of himself. Shame really because he had a pretty damn good voice and they had some decent tunes (even if one of them was a blatant Seek and Destroy rip off).
6/10
VIRUS
Or When Bad Things Happen to Decent Bands.
After a lengthy intro, guitarist/vocalist Coke McFinlay energetically leapt onto the stage and brutally smashed into the opening riff.
Or at least he would have done if he'd remembered to turn his amp on...
After a brief pause for embarrassment, the show went on with a shocking guitar sound and muddy vocals. During the last song (the amusingly titled Raped By Mutants) his A string broke aswell and subsequently wasn't able to concentrate on playing and singing at the same time. In the end, he gave up on the guitar, and without meaning this to sound nasty, it sounded better.
6/10
GAMA BOMB
The first band of the night to really get the pit going. Impossible to go wrong with songs about General Zod, Robocop and Re-Animator.
Lots of necks will be sore this morning.
8/10
LAWNMOWER DETH
Introduced by Keith Platt (aka H of Acid Reign in flat cap and dirty old mans pants), the evening's entertainment quickly built to a crescendo of punk inspired thrash and comedy routines. As many jokes and insane ramblings as there were songs and it all went down an absolute fucking treat.
Yours truly even got hit in the face by part of a miniature guitar as it was mercilessly smashed into a monitor right infront of me after it had been used for a brief rendition of Walt Disney's "I Wanna Be Like You".
We were even treated to a brief Acid Reign "reunion" with H and Kev running through a quick version of their single, "Zzur". All 3 seconds of it.
Nobody left the venue without a stupid grin on their faces and a good night was had by all.
Ooh Crikey.
10/10
They handed me a set list after the show which was nice because it saved me the bother of trying to have to remember it.
I am now also the owner of a great LD t-shirt from the future...
Some pics...
Keith Platt aka H.
Lawnmowers.
Oh, and a quick hello to Immortalicide. Sorry, chap. There were people from two or three different forums there last night and after having only a couple of hours sleep the night before, my brain wasn't able to remember who was from where.
Apologies.

Everyone lying down for the beginning of "Weebles Wobble.." was a classic moment. Brilliant.
It was fucking brilliant that 300 people turned up for this... especially the older LD fans.
I completely forgot to buy t-shirts..... fuck.

Re: return of the apple core: GAMA BOMB,LAWNMOWER DETH,VIRUS + 1
darkweasel, its ok haha, you did look a bit confused when i spoke to you tho!!
Well, i thought Metal Messiah were really good in a thrash meets NWOBHM sort of way, and musically, sort of like a british merciful fate. Virus i have already commentd on. Gama bum were their usual excellent selves, although the lack of any soundcheck meant that lukes guitar rendered domo completely inaudible and the drums only just in earshot. Good to hear some of the new tracks tho, skeletron sounded especially great!!!
Lawnmower deth were just amazing, as they always were. They were really enjoying themselves too. Most of the set was taken from the first 2 lps (thankfully) although glaring ommissions were "got no legs", "can i cultivate" and "judgement day". Also, as they were among many old friends, and they were recieved so warmly, i think it was supremely rude not to have played at least 1 encore when everyone was still calling them back after 10 mins!!!!!

PS you're not all gay, sorry for that out of place comment! and I am not a doctor, but I do smell of rubber gloves.
It was well fun when the driver nearly sent me through the wind screen, after nearly leaving me in god knows where! Bangers and Thrash is good!!! I exite!
All lovely guys too, nice to have met everyone I met!

Re: return of the apple core: GAMA BOMB,LAWNMOWER DETH,VIRUS + 1
the best thrash day out in a long time.so memorable and fun and enjoyable.
although i slept sod all on thurs nite as my spine was hurting like hell,i managed to get out of bed and ignore the pain which disappeared by the time i was up and about.anyway,i went to meet Josh in london at 1230 and we got the tube to 'GOLD'-ers green.having time to spare we went on a food hunt and didnt find food but found plenty of orthodox jews
me and Josh were even stopped by a gang of 8 old men outside the 'mitzvah tank' and asked if we were jewish
it was quite surreal.we finally decided on some non-kosher KFC with the persuasion of Faraz as a few more of us had shown up at the station.
the coach was a pimped out purple and the driver was a quiet fellow who didnt allow drinking on the bus, however im sure if we had all sat near the back we would have got away with it.me and some other 'naughty' boys were drinking nearer the back on the way anyway(coz its big and clever.)
when we got there(after thinking we were lost)it was a strange place full of schools and special centers/units.the place the gig was at was pretty much a leisure center with a pub.very bizarre.the town or whatever you call it was bleak and looked a boring place to live unless you had something on wheels to get about on.it was like a zombie movie suburb, there was only 1 pub and an offy(which were quite a walk from the venue)
since we had 4hours to kill, everyone patiently hung outside and to amuse ourselves we kicked a ball(which Faraz found)against cars, the building and at eachother.
Stephan blasting the ball at Farazs hand and knocking his tin out of his hand and into the car window/wing mirror was too funny.it went everywhere.
there was the best bunch of people on this bus and the time flew by in no time.also after thinking we were the only people gonna be at this gig,it got nearer to 7ish and when i went to the centers loos the pub was fucking rammed.there was like 300 odd all of a sudden and it was mad coz i thought due to the location of the venue that itd be a bit of a mission for anyone to find.but man i was wrong.
also, once inside it was a wicked stage and place to hold it in.nice and wide and not too far back so everyone was crammed in nicely with plenty of space to move around in easily enough.
with the stage being nice and spacious and the drums being on a platform, this gave a more epic feel all round to the bands presence.
onto the bands:after some drunken dawdling outside and not realising thing had started,i went in asap and caught the majority of Metal Messiahs set.i thought they kicked things off nicely and were a cool opening band.some catchy stuff and a good balance of vocal without it sounding too screamy/high pitched.
Virus were class.first time ive seen em(at last)and i didnt notice the snags mentioned earlier in this thread.mainly coz i was pretty drunk and enjoying everything too much that i didnt even notice/wasnt aware.
also i filmed 3 of their tunes.i wish i stayed on the left when filming coz when i moved to the right hand side for a bit more space and a different angle, the camera mic didnt pick up the sound as well in this area/position.
anyway i digress,Virus had some brutally catchy sound and there was a solid crowd of heads bangin.
Gama Bomb were wicked, some great new-new songs some pit action started and remained during this high energy set and Philly got the crowd responding to his commands ie:show your horns"/"dick jones" etc.
you wouldnt think these troopers had been up earlier than anyone.im sure the tiredness goes out the window when on stage on a natural high from the crowds energy.i think a lot of the older LD/Virus fans from the 80s were pleasantly surprised with Gama Bomb and there were plenty of people getting stuck in/hooked.
Lawnmower Deth were an awesome end to the eve.not just a novelty or blast from the past but a fucking top notch act who will have definitely won/converted and gained some new fans(including myself).
they have a wicked punk edge to some of the songs and to see a crowd all wriggling about on thier backs to a song was quite trippy but a nice change.that jungle book/mini guitar smashing escapade was again bizarre and off the wall but funny as fuck.the pit was the friendliest and at the same time voilently fun.no incidents, plenty of helping one another up etc.
thats why i love the party side of thrash and prefer these kind of line ups that give out an agressive yet extremely positive vibe in thier music and it is great to see everyone with a shiteating drunken grin on thier face at the end no matter what went down during the sets.
im absolutely gutted that i forgot to visit the merch stand at the end.this was due to me being merrily drunk and thinking i better get to the coach.i was double pissed off coz i had £20 left in my wallet today which i coulda got a shirt/cd with.
also when outside the venue it was only 1130 and our bus wasnt till 1220.typical.
hopefully Lawnmower Deth will play a lot more this summer.
the bus journey back was extra lovely silliness.me macing peoples lungs with Lynx, people pissing at a roundabout esp.Steve.
and who needed music anyway right?exactly,John singing necropolis and everyone chanting various other thrash/metal classics was great.
im sure the bus was fuller on the way back so i hope Jamie got £9(half the £18)off all the extra people who bundled on.or at least some sort of contribution
there were so many memorable chats, laughs and all round moments of excellence.
thanks to Jamie and the Gama dudes for the privilege.also cheers to Virus Dave for sorting my entry out.thanks to everyone else for a wicked day.
on a sidenote, this morning i had the biggest shit ive ever had in my life.it didnt hurt and was pure solid and a bloody lot of it.there was like 4 whole lengths of 'crud' missile.it reeked of beer too.i wish i had a pic to prove it.
i think KFC+samosa+monster munch+big slice of cake+sweets on bus+an all day mixture of cider and lager tins = a proper mans morning after shit.
great times.
