There's nothing to associate the music with, just a file on the computer.

Hah, now I'm glad I didn't bother ripping Hell Demo and putting it on Kerrazy. The thought had crossed my mind.

I'm a hardcore pirate, but for bands like Onslaught I'll buy the album just to support them. That won't stop me downloading it for archiving purposes. ALL DATA MUST BE ARCHIVED!

well, our demos are different, theyre demos. I mean properly released albums.

download our demo stuff all anyone wants, thats why its up to download haha.

Use Itunes to rip your CDs and just not share it.

I want to hear if the albums good before I buy it. I don't see the huge moral dilema hear. I think more people should do what slayer did and post the album on the net so people could listen to it without downloading. If I like the new onslaught album I'll buy it but I'm not gonna buy it if it's crap just to support the scene!

I think that it's inevitable people are going to download albums as long as they cost 12/16 pounds in the shops. It's a fucking disgrace. I downloaded 'Smear Campaign' by Napalm Death earlier this year and bought it because I was very pleased with how it was and I wanted to support the band - plus it had 2 extra tracks that are more than worth buying the CD.

I can see the point about albums being leaked before release, but is downloading really any different to tape-trading? Obviously it requires a lot less effort, but the kind of people who download probably would have been unlikely to buy the album in the first place.

Thats a really good point, when a band does that I dont end up downloading the album, theres no need, I can listen and make my decision with the streaming copies.

As I say though for me its entirely about hearing as much stuff as I can as quickly as I can, I'm way too poor to buy every CD I want to listen to, but yet what little money I do get goes almost entirely on CDs.

Maybe my impatience and eagerness to discover new music has clouded my vision on this somewhat, but I do and will continue to download, unapologetically. Not to say I dont understand the standpoint of many members of bands who feel its theft and its robbing them of their rewards for making a good album...

And finally about supporting your scene, I got pretty pissed at being told I wasnt supporting the scene to be honest, I left the thread for a while to avoid ending up in a full blown argument, but I am ALWAYS out at gigs, I've bought CDs and T-Shirts or whatever of arse loads of small bands, and I've travelled fairly far to support small bands that I like considering how terminally unemployed I am...
I really dont consider posting one link to a download of an album on this forum as doing that much harm, I trust this place, and the point made about lurkers, there was no direct link, I mentioned the name of the place, if you werent a regular round here you probably wouldnt even know what DeathThrash was, even so if it bothers people I'd gladly edit that out of posts, no skin off my nose.

Why does everyone feel the need to argue??

@ Everyone against downloading - It isn't affecting you so why does it actually matter THAT much? I understand you're all trying to make a point that it IS wrong, which it is, but if people download things there's no point going on, it's not gonna stop anyone!!!

@ Everyone for downloading (I am, usually) - It is wrong to download, but I know most of you illegal bastards on this board :P and I know that you will most probably buy the album anyways! Especially since it's the first 'slaught album for 17 years!!! But there's no point in fuelling the fire of arguement!!!!!

I would download the new Onslaught album, but hell, I can't be bothered, I know I'm gonna like it (heard enough of the songs live before), so I'll just wait to buy it and then it will be a lovely surprise!!!

The reason I download instead of even looking for the album is that I have around 300 CDs sitting on the shelves behind me gathering dust having not been used since I got an MP3 player.

It may be illegal to download music but it's downright retarded to spend a tenner on an album just to open it once, rip it onto your PC and then leave it to gather dust.

Sorry, I have a duty to my fellow pirates. Share as you would want to be shared unto! Yarrr. Hell, I used to have perfectly archived discographies for Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Metallica, Anthrax, Black Sabbath... every single goddamn song, plus bonus tracks. The least I can do is share the few albums I buy.

I think that your comment here possibly reveals that you don't understand the consequences of people downloading music. I don't think that the people against downloading are personally offended by it - they're bothered because it ultimately effects the band's they love. It's not a case of "It isn't affecting you so why does it actually matter".

Bit of a 2 sided coin. im in a band and have had to remove our album from some download sites but things like itunes are the future of music so downloading of some form has got to play its part.
will the new onslaught lp be on itunes?

Just a late point on this topic, but i dont think you understand what the tape trading scene was. We didnt trade copies of official released recordings, rather live / rehearsal / demo / interview footage. I have around 500 hours of tapes from the 80s when i used to trade, and not even 1% is of stuff i could have got from retailers!!!! Bands actively encouraged the scene as we were the channels to promote their bands and their music. The band recorded a demo or rehearsal, then send it to a few fans who copied it and sent it to a few more and so on. With a band like DEATH who were one of the most traded bands on the planet, the fanbase they had before SBG was released was massive and its fair to say a large amount of those fans went and got the album whenit was released. fans happy, band happy, label happy. I dont want to open the whole debate agin but that is how things were. It would be the same if Deceptor recorded their last rehearsal and you put it on your website for a free download. Free promotion.
