yes and luckily those freedoms give us the opportunity and the responsibility to try and make things better. i think Lions is making a valid point because everyone goes on about how Britain is so wealthy when really our average standard of living is lower than some less wealthy nations. I don't think being in the UN security council ,having nuclear weapons and a significant amount of influence makes up for this. I think British patriotism is too fixed on world power and past "glories" rather than important things such as our standard of living.

You'll have to tell me what's wrong with the average standard of living in this country so that I can understand what you're on about.

There's a difference between being a moaning arsehole and pointing out the flaws of your country. Britain is still up there as a good place to live but it could be so much better. That's all I am saying.

You said that the Empire was 'centuries ago'. To give one example the British killed 300,000 people in Kenya fifty years ago. Also to suggest that Britain freed her colonies voluntarily is riciculous and somewhat insulting to the thousands of people who fought against British imperialism.
