That is a fair idea i suppose.

There is also the lust to get something out and printed for me though.

But yeah top idea.
Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

Thank the Police coming straight from the underground...

As I said earlier

a) It's a business
b) It's damn good promotion
c) You do realise that even some underground fanzines charge for adverts, etc.?

Indeed, but my argument to that is that yes, adverts, fine, charging record companies to have their bands' songs on the CD, yes fine, that all how you keep the mag going, but if you're doing all that why then do you need to charge poor unsigned bands £400 each to get their song on a CD, which they only do an edition of very rarely? If they did one every issue then I could understand it, but they hardly ever do it, which is why I think bloody hell.

Of course I don't know the actual costs of printing and distributing each magazine/CD, so maybe I'm wrong and maybe everything they charge everyone for one issue just about covers the cost of producing that issue and everyone's wages, so maybe they still need to. I don't know. But there's a lot of adverts in each issue, they sell a lot of copies, they must make a lot of money; my argument is, couldn't they use the money they make throughout the year to put out an unsigned CD a couple of times a year without having to charge the bands for it?

Im with Jon on this. If they care so much to put an unsigned CD out every so often they should care enough to do it for nothing and actually find good bands for the CD other than bands who have money.

I wouldn't pay a curleywurley and half a packet of love hearts to be on a Terrorizer CD.

We review demos every month and a number of self-released albums, for which we get zero advertising revenue. We've recently stopped Breaking Faces and introduced Choice Cuts which will feature even more unsigned bands for which we will get zero advertising revenue. I spend countless hours scouring myspace in search of unsigned bands for Tz to feature, something that a number of the scribes do as well. Don't you dare to suggest we do not care about the underground! For a glossy metal magazine we are one of its biggest supporters, certainly in the UK and probably worldwide.

Most bands that end up in the mainstream mags have been in TZ first, using it as a springboard to get more press.

Where can i mail the mag to put a small picture of an album jpeg with a review though for the reviews section? The whole page always looks very wordy and is off-putting.

a and c I agree with and make sense. Is there any evidence that it is good promotion? Sure a lot of people will have access to the CD/track but what are the outcomes? Do people see increased myspace views, sales of EPs/CD's, label interest, gigs or is there nothing that tangible?

While getting access to 15,000 pairs of ears may seem good does it actually make sense for an unsigned band?
