Hahaha! Good work Lev!

Caps, if you do end up having an argument about it, you can always use Bill Hicks as a reference:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R370YkYhV0w

"God's testing you" seems to be a bit of a last resort-type argument, so that pretty much works in any argument :)

I'd say something constructive but James did it first.
I'm going to
Tear your fuckin' eyes out,
Rip your fuckin' flesh off,
Beat you 'till you're just a fucking lifeless carcass,
Fuck you and your progress,
Watch me fucking regress,
You were made to take the fall,
Now you're nothing!!

I am waiting on a reply from guinness. Being an anal bastard ftw.
Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

Thank the Police coming straight from the underground...

STD_Caps wrote:Returning to the delightful discussion we had a good while back, I have just discovered that the lady I am currently seeing is a bit religious.

I escorted some Year 10 students out the school to various places today, one of the places being a nursing home. It was really depressing. A musty smell of some sort of meatpie and old people who didn't even know where they were. Literally, one kept saying 'where are we?' and another kept replying 'i don't know'.
All of this reaffirmed the idea that I want to go before I end up a senile fuckwit. This led me telling my girlfriend over the phone that I was going to be killed by police after I had hurled molotov cocktails at parliament in celebration of my 50th birthday. She replied that, if she was walking by, that I could kill her and then we'd have a massive row in heaven. I thought she was joking about the whole heaven thing but it turns out that:
-She went to Church on Easter Sunday and she is Catholic, although not strict
-She believes that there is an after-life
-Any time I want to argue about it, I can 'bring it' because she is comfortable with her faith

What the fuck do I say to that? I suppose I have two questions for you folks.
First, would you 'bring it' and for what purpose? Would you argue for the sake of arguing or would you want to convince your partner that their belief was ludicrous and hope that they rescind their beliefs? Alternatively, would you 'leave it' because however comfortable a religious person say they are with their faith, the odds are they don't like a massive dressing down about it. Especially when you're ultimately testing their ability to think in a logical and rational manner.
Second, could you go out with someone who was religious and how serious could it become? Ultimately, how much would it conflict to be a non-religious person involved with a religious person.

I don't know what will happen with this long-term but we're not very serious at the moment and I hadn't noticed before so I will allow. However, if she comes along to a gig to hear me scream out such STD ballads as 'Anti-Religion' and 'The Pope is Fucking Dead', I do wonder how long it can last.

I wouldn't bother getting into a debate just for the sake of it man. At the end of the day, when you're in a relationship, there are far too many things to argue about let alone religion. Just accept she's into what she's into. I know it's a poor comparison, but imagine if she was discussing this with her mates like you are; "oh man... my new fella is into metal, do I bring it up? is it an issue? should I attempt to change his opinion?" - I'm sure you'll understand the point I'm trying to make.

At the end of the day, I'm not religious and I wouldn't have a problem with going out with a religious person unless it infringed upon me or it got in the way of my needs, such as having pre-marital sex.

And on the subject of her finding out about your band and the subject matter - hide it from her. That's what I've done with the majority of my girlfriends. They've only ever found out I scream my head off by accident.

If it was me i'd let her get on with it and not bring the issue of religion up but i don't really have a massive anti-religion agenda. If it starts to impede on your relationship then just cut loose, don't bother arguing about religion, it's the most futile activity imaginable.
You basically condoned euthanasia to her and she said you'd go to heaven so she hardly sounds like Benedict II anyway.

Also, why the whole "The Pope is dead" thing? Aren't you just preaching to the converted with that tired old cliche?

Never go out with someone religious. Religious people are mentally ill. And you wouldn't go out with a mentally ill person.

- Martin, I agree. We don't agree on music, films or tv to be honest. I think that's enough to clash with. Our only similarities are that we both work in schools, like to have fun and we're a little into each other's politics. I wouldn't want her telling me to start enjoying I am Kloot or whatever they're called and I'm not going to give her my Brutal Truth albums to listen to. Best appreciate people for their differences.

- Lev, I think you'll find most people are a little on the mentally ill side, irrespective of religion. I mean I confessed that I want to firebomb parliament for my 50th. If you ever find a sane person to be with it will either be the best or the dullest relationship ever.

- Styxx, I use Bill Hicks for near enough any and every argument. Don't know whether I'd play such a controversial card in this game of relationship rummy.

- Boov, you're also right. It's not a big deal and I won't make it as such. We're nowhere near the conversations on marriage and kids - though I think she knows I don't want the latter and has probably guessed I'm a no on the former, too - so it's not an issue yet.
With regards to the Pope thing, I wrote it shortly after the Pope died. The Pope is one of the most ridiculous institutions that still exists and far exceeds our monarchy (bringing it back to an earlier lengthy discussion). 'He perpetuates the dreams, of ancient centuries' as the lyrics go. In spite of the immature title it's not just 'Hang the Pope' style controversy for its own sake. As for preaching to the converted yes and no. I write lyrics about many things and I'll happily discuss them all, both with those that agree and those that don't. As STD rarely play to a politically conscious crowd (because a) we hardly play and b) politically conscious crowds are fucking rare), we're normally suffering from preaching to those that couldn't give a shit either way.
"And what about the churches and all their wealth
There's an unseen fortune under their belts
Are golden temples a symbol of God's way
This horde of wealth is a sickening display"
