I don't live in Carlisle. I live six miles out in a quiet village where we have flower contests and make pies for each other to say thanks for having us round last Wednesday for that posh tea.
I just work in Carlisle. And I don't drink.

All this talk of beer is making me thirsty. I am going to do a little more work on my essay and then pick up a couple of brews.

There's an unseen fortune under their belts
Are golden temples a symbol of God's way
This horde of wealth is a sickening display"

Pick up some 'Welch's White Grape, Apple and Pear' instead. You'll feel much better.

STD_Caps wrote:Drinkers and smokers don't mix, like drinkers and sober people. However, smokers are sociable when together. It's a choice. You choose booze, others choose weed and others, like Lev, choose sobriety. But like you said, you don't have a problem as passing your hypocritical rhetoric as fact. Neither do I, but I will point it out for the purpose of balance.
And Lev, the good drug / bad drug debate is so much more complicated than the way you put it. Just as simple examples, Valium and Morphine. Furthermore, someone - my mind has gone blank as to who - was telling me how she was pressured in her job to push people into buying medication they didn't need. Likewise, so many 'wonder drugs' end up having so many negative factors to them that are inexplicably overlooked in the testing stage. Or, as a possible explanation, it is more important to push them through for business than to establish accurate results.
Drinkers and smokers do so mix. Well, they did until the powers that be told them they couldn't smoke in pubs any more. I really didn't mind people smoking in pubs. If anything it made the atmosphere better. But now you can't have a conversation within the group as well as you could before because someone's always nipping out for a cigarette. Drinkers and sober people also mix. The vast majority of the time I'm at the pub there'll be someone that's got to drive someone that night or whatever and so just have Irn Bru, or a single pint.
My rhetoric isn't hypocritical, it's just amazing. I'm really considering publishing a pamphlet. Seeing as I have an opinion on more or less everything, it would be widely read.

Pah!
It's more or less the same thing. If you told someone who didn't know Cumbria very well, you'd just tell them that you live in Carlisle for simplicity's sake. Besides, rural areas are usually as bad for boozers because there's hee-haw else to do. Sure, you can play golf during the day but that possibility is gone by evening.
You should drink. Drinking makes people more pleasant to be around. People are generally more witty when they've had a few too.

Yeah, the horrible smell, the stinging eyes. It's amazing. I especially love it when you get home and you have to wash your hair before you go to bed just so you can sleep.

For simplicitys sake I would, but in this debate, no chance. Thursby and Carlisle are far from the same thing. Friendly old people, a pleasent school and a post office. That's Thursby. A smell of a shit, endless clubs and a public toilet. That's Carlisle.
I should not drink. Drinking makes people horrible to be around and people are generally less funny when they've had a few. The only people who find them funny are other pissed people. Who are also not funny.

By smokers, I meant those who smoke weed. I don't want to brand them 'stoners' because the tag holds so much more and I'm not 'street' enough to call them 'bunners'. And most sober people from my experience prefer the company of stoned people than pissed people.
However, I agree on the smoking ban.

The smoking ban was such a beautiful day. I couldn't have been happier. Until winter came, and I watched them all trying to spark up in the wind and rain.

On a side note I saw a film called 'Super High Me' last night, was a good watch with some interesting facts and was relativly unbiased. Although it mainly touched on issues such as medical mj etc... Saying that though, it was clear to me that the main object of the film was to be funny and actually show what smoking weed is like and what affects it can have on your physical and mental health etc...
I wouldn't watch it for any scientific fact though as it contains very little apart from doctors tests... Mainly focusing on political/personal issues. Still a funny interesting watch though and it does highlight problems concerning patients in California who have have AIDs and other horrible diseases who find cannabis to be only effective medicine for them and then being arrested by the federal government despite California state law.
Here's the trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7vMqowaPig
Available on most torrent sites, I know for sure it's on Demonoid.
Anyways....What does it matter to some of you people if Cannabis was legal? Your not going to smoke it and never have....It would also be a great tax revenue for the government therefore possibly improving your quality of life? You have already made it pretty clear that you want nothing really to do with stoners so what have you got to lose?
I personally believe that alcohol is a fuck tonne more dangerous and detrimental than cannabis and would probably put my money on it.

In support of Bens post,
and to quote a great man (or a gay man, I'm sure it was one of the two) :
'you won't see someone who'se spent an evening smoking weed come home and beat his wife'

Re: Drugs. Yes... Drugs.
Think about smoking/drugs this way:
Everything is bad for you in excess one way or another, should they ban food simply because people get obese?? Should they ban alcohol because too many people suffer the long-term effects of drinking too much?? Should they ban water because some people have died from drinking too much?? Should they ban WoW cos people died playing it for days in a row?? the list could go on and on and on.... but do they ban any of that stuff?? Nope.
I don't know of any drug related mental health issues that are NOT the result of EXCESSIVE use of a substance, and, in the same way that obese people have eaten excessive amounts of food (and still do, despite the health issues of being obese), and alcoholics drink too much alcohol, it simply comes down to greed!!! I bet if the people fucked up from drugs hadn't had access to drugs, they would have overloaded on something else, be it cigarettes, alcohol, or food!!!!
Our society doesn't shun; fat people, not even the most obese; smokers not even the ones who are smoking ALL day; drinkers, nope they're fine, unless you're an alchy, then get to AA!!!; but if you smoke one joint a day, or 2 joints in one day, you're in the same 'category' as someone who won't even get out of bed until they've shot up on smack... something seems to be a little imbalanced there

Well, I did smoke when I was younger so I guess I got used to it. There was really no need to ban it completely. It's just not the way things like this should be handled. The better way would have been to continue what they were doing before and let the proprietor of a bar or pub decide whether or not to allow smoking on the premises. I remember people basically suggesting that you should have the right to drink in a smoke-free environment. I think that's total bollocks. You could say you also have the right to enjoy your pint whilst not getting annoyed by a drunk at the bar too.
I too live out in the country when I'm not at Uni. It was a nice place until all the foreigners turned up and wrecked the place. Seriously though, it's just gone to the dogs really: neds on the golf course, for example.
Your last point is a lie. People do become funnier because the part of the brain that promotes restraint is overridden and they become more inclined to say things they would normally consider risqué. I guess this can be a bad thing from time to time, but if, like me, you are a strong advocate of people speaking their minds, it's great.

Christ, which planet have you been living on? Planet Complete And Utter Bollocks?
You must know some fairly tolerant people, like. I cannot stand the company of pot-heads when I'm smashed, let alone when I'm sober. Honestly, I went to see the Simpsons' Movie at the cinema with people who were stoned as fuck and I just about had to walk out. Not only did they find it funny, they were in a continual state of hysteria.
Drunks tend to be more menacing, but they pose little threat if you just ignore them. It's hard to do this with stoners because they're like fucking hyena when they get going.
