So yea, Crust bands - Misery, After the Bombs, Extinction of Mankind, Dischange, Deviated Instinct, Filth of Mankind, Volkermord, Amebix.
Anyone else into this music?
I love this music; always felt it had a strange kinship with alot of black metal musically speaking.

that band HOVIS arent bad
nah,ignore my awful puns!
on a serious note, what is crust exactly?ie:what elements of metal qualify as crust or what makes crust a genre?
ive heard of other terms/types of genres ie:sludge, doom, stoner and grindcore metal, but to hear crust is a first for me.

Re: into your Crust I thrust!
Good question Sir.
Well to me Crust has at its core, old school hardcore ethic and sound but with filthy edge and metalic influence. Very DIY mostly and often elitist in this respect. Some bands like Filth of Mankind have an almost wholly metal sound, reminding me at times of Sepultura. Overall Discharge set a blueprint for the style with maybe Extreme Noise Terror being one of the earliest bands to take that sound and attitude to the next level.
Ironically, despite the musical and sometimes aesthetic parallels, crust and black metal ideologically tend to be at opposite ends of the spectrum.
Discharge influenced Bathory in the early days too remember.
It all comes from the same place, ideology and image seperate.

Re: into your Crust I thrust!
EXTRA: Many crust bands seem to be obsessed with armageddon and the demise of humanity which suggests to me a certain misanthropic attitude, yet many will deny such unhumanitarian attitudes which to me makes no sense. Full on misanthropic vegan crust; humanity deserves to be eradicated - fuck yes, but where are these bands? Thats where some black metal comes into it.

Why, when I see the word 'crust' do I immediately think of the word 'vagina'?

I did as well. I think it's because of that granny/pie minge joke.

Because of my witty thread title I'd imagine.
I'm not so keen on Driller Killer but Hellbastard are awsome, apart from the album they put out a few years back on Bomb Factory Records which I personally thought was nothing special.
Wolfbrigade also a fav of mine.

What about disgust? They are damn fine crusty feckers, also the old school anti-cimex from sweden, one of the pioneers.

Some mighty fine bands mentioned there...
Crust was basically started by AMEBIX, ANTISECT, DEVIATED INSTINCT & HELLBASTARD. The anarcho punk bands of the mid 80's started incorperating metal influences into their music and we had crust. "Rise Of Crust"... I think HELLBASTARD used the phrase first.
Lots of really good crust bands from America at the moment, just ordered the latest STORMCROW split LP, but my faves (at the moment) are FALL OF EFRAFA from Brighton. They are seriously good. Check them out if you haven't already!
