The best priest album?
Judas priest are the ultimate metal gods and i shall spit on anyone who disagrees but which is the album that really got your heads banging from their devilishly large back catalogue?

Painkiller
I've never got that much into the rest but I love everything I've heard by JP.

Pretty convinced that no-one will vote for Rocka Rolla then?

Yeah Judas fucking Priest yeah!
(A nice little nod to those who saw them on tour last time round)
Sad Wings of Destiny is not only the best Priest album but also one of the best heavy metal albums of all time on this planet. Unbelievable. All the songs fuck you up the bum hole, Victim of Changes most of all. No! No! No! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!! (That's the bit at the end) The Ripper is simultaneously hilarious and brilliant like the best metal songs, Dreamer Deceiver makes me want to cry like a bloody gay, Deceiver makes me want to rock like a man, Tyrant is just the fuck of all fucks, Genocide and Island of Domination are mothers of metal riffage, and Prelude and Epitaph are just lovely. Basically, fuck, this is one of the best albums ever. I really really love it.
Painkiller is also nice but I feel that it's too samey all the way through to say it's the best album. It definitely has some amazing classic songs, and One Shot of Glory, one of the most metal songs ever. But still, I can't listen to the whole album in one go without feeling a bit bored halfway through. Screaming for Vengeance and Defenders and the 2nd and 3rd bests for me. The Sentinel is one of the best metal songs also of all time. Shitting crikey. And Sin After Sin is also amazing. Point of Entry is hilarious, with Hot Rockin being one of the most hilarious songs/promo videos ever in the world.
And yes indeed, Angel of Retribution should be on the list too! It's a brilliant album, and Loch Ness is a fucking underrated song!
Right, time for Neighbours.

Yes, Judas Priest. Here we go then.
My top album is certainly Sad Wings. No question. Probably the finest metal album of all time Victim of Changes is clearly one of the greatest live songs ever. Every time I've seen it performed, it's been ridiculously intense. Apart from Glens stupid bit that got old after the first time he did it. KKs solo is always awe inspiring as well. And Robs bloody voice. I don't know if he saves it for this song or what (he always says it's his favourite), but God damn. It's sheer soul crushing stuff. That scream at the end! Good God. I've just set myself the task to make an mp3 of victim of changes screams. I'll do it.
But yeah, everything of the album is timeless. With the exception of maybe Epitaph which is good, but skippable. Although not really cos it leads into island of domination so well...
I always secretly think that the 70's albums are the best, but then always manage to prove myself wrong by listening to Screaming and Defenders. British Steels is essential, but forgettable . It's kind of a bit too premeditated, which I think Painkiller falls under as well. In fact the best songs off those albums are the ones that aren't as well known. Steeler and One Shot at Glory for example.
But Jesus Christ for songs from the 70's. Bloody Dissident Aggressor! Ahhhhh!
Rocka Rolla is easy to look over cos it's not a 'real' Priest album. Look at tracks like Dying to Meet you and Run of The Mill though. Oh my goodness.

Don't even start Martin, Priest are better than your life!
I agree, this is an impossible decision.
If I had to choose one for a desert island, it would definitely be Sad Wings of Destiny... it's certainly one of the greatest metal albums ever. I've been playing along to Tyrant recently, that's one of the album's highlights.
Sad Wings is also ample evidence for Halford being the greatest metal vocalist of all time.
But I could never live without monster albums like Screaming For Vengeance or Defenders of the Faith. And also the often overlooked STAINED CLASS, featuring one of THE greatest metal songs ever, Beyond the Realms of Death!
I agree pretty much with Jon about Painkiller - it is certainly the most brutal and intense METAL album you will ever hear, but that doesn't make it my favourite Priest moment.
The sheer quantity of masterful material Priest have done is staggering. They're the gods.

I'm going to
Tear your fuckin' eyes out,
Rip your fuckin' flesh off,
Beat you 'till you're just a fucking lifeless carcass,
Fuck you and your progress,
Watch me fucking regress,
You were made to take the fall,
Now you're nothing!!

I do love JP, but have to say most of the albums have a few fillers along the mega tracks, apart from Defenders, so i voted for that. The sentinel is one of the best metal tracks ever!!!

i voted for screaming for vengeance purelly cos it was such a step up from previous priest albums in the sound quality and also musically, where as previous priest albums ahd some really strong songs like tyrant and freewheel burning i just feel screaming is a good variating album with killer riffs and amazing solo's plus there is not one dull moment! long live judas priest
