I watched the game when it was on. I remember it going around that it hit the back of the net at 96.6mph or something equally ridiculous.

He was just demonstrating how amazing Carlos was by showing that he completely defied physics. It's sort of like using modern technology to show that 'the' goal from the 1966 World Cup Final wasn't actually a goal.
I do, however, agree that Yanks make for fucking useless sports pundits. It's not as if they just ruin our sports by being complete tits; their own games are ruined with silly stats too. In basketball, for example, they go on about 'assists' and all that bollocks.
I'm still unsure what 'beating the spread' actually means. It's not going to be some sort of filthy double entendre because Yanks don't work that way. Still, I wouldn't mind knowing...
