1 - JOKE!
2 - Atmosphere isn't created, and shouldn't be, by BAD production! It should be made with the tone of the instruments and musical style, not whether it sounds crackly and shit or not. The production was bad because they probably used shit equipment.
Favourite Metal Genre (apart from thrash)

actually for the immortal stuff i have the production seems surprisingly good, its wierd to like the music and be able to laugh at them so much at the same time

Heavy metal, 100%, that's where all these bullshit sub-genres came from. Without Heavy metal there would be no Thrash, in fact the line between early thrash and NWOBHM is pretty fucking thin if you ask me.
If you think Sabbath, Maiden, Priest etc. I don't even think there's a god damn contest!

Scratch my vote, Heavy metal rules to much to be discounted! Just been listening to some classic priest can't beat that stuff.

Proper black metal, dirty old school death metal, NWOBHM, doom, basically anything with a bit of balls. In fact, I'd probably say I listen to all of them more than thrash, just because there are a larger number of interesting and unique bands in those genres, as opposed to thrash where most bands just try and rip on the Germans, or the Bay Area.
If I had to pick one genre, I'd say black metal.
I'd also like to suggest that poor production doesn't make black metal atmospheric - it's suitable production that does that. If you listen to e.g. the early Darkthrone records, you can hear everything clearly. The idiot who said that production has nothing to do with atmosphere hasn't got a clue - try listening to more than just commercial thrash and you might understand.

The idiot calling people idiots shouldn't (has to be said tbh- you don't know me, so don't do it, it's just plain rude man), and fuck you I listen to loads of different metal!
The production shouldn't have to give the music atmosphere anyways, the music itself and the tone/settings of the instruments should give it all the atmosphere and feeling...
