Better Red than dead, or is it the other way round?

I've been re-reading a lot of the early Marvel comics and getting many of the references to the Red Peril etc. that went over my head when I was a kid. In those days the likes of Iron Man and even the Fantastic Four could be seen battling Commie plots as well as fighting mutants or aliens.

John Rambo accidentally found it's way onto my PC today...

The story is, as you would expect, minimalist. Some missionaries hire Rambo to take them upriver into Burma to give medical assistance to some nearby villagers, but after he drops them off some get taken hostage when a particularly savage local army slaughter virtually everyone in sight.
A bunch of mercenaries then get Rambo to take them to where the missionaries disappeared so they can rescue them.
Then it all kicks off.
Seriously.

Arrows through faces, legs torn off, disembowelment, decapitations, arm chopping, bodies being split in two from machine gun fire, people completely destroyed by explosives, it's total carnage for the last twenty minutes.

For once it's great(?) to see what large calibre weapons will actually do to a human body. No A-Team "Oops, I've just been shot but I'll just carry on like nothing has happened" here. When a very large machine gun is fired point blank into somebody, then there's nothing left but dripping flesh and a large red smear.
Groovy.
