I've just started taking drum lessons, but what I want to know is; how long does it take to become a decent band worthy death metal drummer?

Depends on how you practise and how much you practise.

I stress if you don't use a metronome you WILL suck.

Took me 3 or 4 hour a day practises to get my Double bass up to 16ths at 200bpm constantly when i used to play.

Just blast beat straight away.

Drumming's Bullshit. All you have to do is believe.

The best thing to do is not bother. Heretic already has a monopoly on the best music.

You're not doing it hard enough then.

Step one, get out of bed before evening and do somthing physical other than masterbating to help you get fit.
Step 2, dont expect it to just happen because you want it too, practice till your fed up of practicing and then practice some more
Step 3, when you are half decent at keeping time with a simple beat, join Heretic

Just do what Lars Ulrich has started doing nowadays and use steel bins instead, much cheaper, and you don't have to tune them!

Here's my advice: Sell your drums and buy Guitar Hero 2. No-one likes a drummer, that's why the Spinal Tap drummer spontaneously combusted.

do the basics first, 4/4 beats, fills, etc. once you got the basics done you can start thinking about blastbeats/double pedal etc etc.

anyone seen the pantera dvd where phil is trying to play drums ?? thats what youll look like now if you try death metal drums
