Dragonforce ...

Postby Craig on Sat Jul 19, 2008 1:29 pm

Well, my credibility (if I ever had any to start with) is about to go to rock-bottom, but fuck it

They're a bit like Marmite. You either like them or absolutely despise them with a passion. I happen to side with the former. That said, I don't really listen to them all that often, they have a couple of decent tracks (My Spirit Will Go On and a couple of others from Sonic Firestorm, the title track from Valley of the Damned, Through the Fire and Flames from Inhuman Rampage) and they're generally a pretty energetic and fun band to listen to if you don't take the music too seriously.

Their newest album (Ultra Beatdown - yeah I know, shit name) has been on the torrents for a few days (release date is August 25th) and I happen to really, really like it. Taking into account what I already said about not taking them seriously, the quality of the riffs and also the songwriting has definitely improved from Inhuman Rampage, the songs actually seem to gel together rather than suddenly falling into a 4-minute guitar solo. There's some hilariously cheesy sing-along tracks, but this is Dragonforce, so can you expect anything else?

Discuss.

I hate power metal as it is, so when Dragonforce came out I just stapled my ears shut.

Dragonforce are really, really fun live. Despite the fact they can't seem to play most of there songs they're still very enjoyable.

Herman Li's a pretty nice guy aswell, I've ran into him several times at various clubs/gigs and he seems like a nice chap.

They're pretty foul from what I've heard of them. I'm always willing to give a band a chance, even if it does have a silly name, but I have never really felt obliged to check them out further. I used to be well into everything guitar too but, from what I've seen of their guitarists, they're not even that good.

My brother is a big fan, i enjoy them as well. As long as you don't take them serious in the least.
Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

I like them. They make silly noises and I can sing the words. I won't have a wank over them though.

Don't mind DragonForce but a couple of my mates who've seen them live have come back disappointed. So I reckon i'll just stick to listening to the albums.

That's pretty much how to treat them I think - I've given Ultra Beatdown a fair few plays and I'm still struggling to remember any of the tracks after I've finished  - it's probably better to treat them as forgettable but fun background music

I'll agree with you on Rhapsody (although Domine are better) and Stratovarius ("Visions" is brilliant) but I've always found Sonata Arctica to be just a second rate Stratovarius clone.
As to Dragonforce,I like them, already got tickets for the Rock City gig, althugh the last time I saw them,I thought the support band,Firewind, were better.
