Hold on, did I hear this right? To play Hammerfest, you need to get 15 pals to spend £100+ buying tickets and a chalet to go see you? I've not got this wrong, have I? Fair enough, asking bands to maybe sell some tickets for support gigs or something, but that's like £4/£5, but a festival actively holding back places for bands who can't sell £100+ tickets is massive fucking bollocks.

I didn't want to be the first to say it, but double agreed. Once again the "pay to play" mantra rears its ugly head. I really hope you get to play, guys, you know I love the band, but you deserve the slot on your own merits. There's an awful lot of this sort of exploitation going on at the moment, from Bloodstock Metal 2 The Masses, to the latest Evile tour support competition fiasco (don't get me started on that pile of bullshit). Maybe I'm being naiive, but I just think things would be a lot better if bands were given breaks based on how good a band they are rather than how many friends they can extort money out of. I know these things have to be run like businesses, but fucking hell.

no going to jump in and say its a good thing at all. the whole thing is lame and probably not achievable. Bands just don't get supported enough or given a break. Unless your filling someones pocket your not good enough (in most cases).

Evile support competition is lame although im glad they have 2 consistent support slots for the tour and 2 good ones at that. I'll stand up for Metal 2 The Masses and not just because we won the london heats last year. Simon really does do a good job and on many occasions he gave bands a slot at BOA because they were good not just because you had to win, show you could get more mates down the pub than another band or bribe him.
