Black Metal - and not the eyeliner and mesh-top wearing bollocks churned out by Dimmu et al.

'Classic' heavy metal (Saxon, Manowar, Warlord e.t.c.) is up there as well, along with a very select number of power metal bands (Blind Guardian and... erm... I think that's it!).

Is that a rhetorical question?

What ever happened to them anyway? I remember them making a brief comeback but they had started to wear eyeliner...

I like black metal as well. The only death metal I can tolerate is early Death when it was still very thrashy. I just want to put my fingers in my ears screaming when I hear stuff like Nile. And don't even get me started on metalcore. That back and forth between annoying clean singing and fucking horrible screaming makes me want to kill every member of the band (as he remembers Trivium and 36 crazyfists). Seriously is that some kind of unwritten requirement for metalcore?

They tried to stop being angsty, and that's the only reason anyone ever liked them.

I really dont listen to a while lot of metal apart from thrash, a little death and power/heavy is about all. I voted death though :?

i went for death metal, it was a close call between than and black which i'm really starting to get into(as long as it doesnt have terrible production)

i like some power metal sometimes depending on the mood and you have to love the classic metal

If i had to choose a genre other than thrash i would have to say either grind or doom, but since they're not on their i'm gonna have to go for death I guess. Been listening to a lot of zyklon recently.

Then you're getting into the wrong genre, the best black metal bands have poor production, it adds to the atmosphere.

I voted death, although I mainly listen to thrash, death, black and classic metal. I do listen to every genre of metal though.

well it depends how you take bad production i guess, sometimes it gives it a nice old school feel but sometimes it sounds so shit you can barely distinguish instruments

1)Metalcore isn't metal, I don't know what the fuck it's doing in this poll. And yes, there are some good metalcore bands.

2)Black metal is supposed to have an atmosphere os malevolence and misanthropy surrounding it, and to have that poor production is almost essential. Like the old black and white horror movies are very often more effective than the new colour great picture ones for chills.
