you might think you do but you dont.
i bought one with fatal fury special a few years ago for £250 at a retrogame shop in croydon.
it all worked fine and i bought 1 or 2 other pricey games to go ith it and have a selection.
got it all hooked up and started the games. they are set at super-insane-immensely-frustrating-ultra hard-unfair-impossible difficulty.
you can set the scale of 1-8 on the options of the games but even on level 1 easiest you still get raped.i could only get to the 3rd fight at best after literally 100s of tries.
the arcade stick is so cumbersome and awkward to use.
i got myself a ps2 to neogeo controller adapter for £20 from another retroshop and this was a great improvement in executing some of the moves and i got a little further.
another issue was that some games only give you 3 credits so i got the memory card but it was cack and could only store 1 games data at a time.
anyway,i eventually got sick of it and traded it all for £400 value against a stack of snes games and 1 or 2 new ps2 releases at the time.
get the neo rage emulator and all the roms.it much more fun using a snes controller (via usb adapter) and also save states(hooray) and you can even set the game settings of each rom via a menu on the programme.
its great and 100 times cheaper and a lot less frustrating.
enjoy

Re: Console Gaming
If SNK would prot their games to the PS2 in the fucking UK then I wouldn't have such hassle. The sole reason I'm considering buying an Xbox 360 is simply to play KOF'02: Unlimited Match and Mark of the Wolves!

Re: Console Gaming
I finished FFIX last week, and what a wonderful joy to behold it was! Seriously, I completely forgot how good it was. Which was a good thing, as I couldn't remember any of the story or anything, so it was almost like playing it for the first time again. The characters are a real joyous bunch indeed (not like the moany/annoying wankers of VIII), the design of all the different areas is wonderful and colourful and lovely, the music is very nice indeed, and the story is actually quite fantastic indeed, especially with its Metal Gear Solid-style twist of joy near the end of disc 3, and it is also quite a nice meaningful one as well. The battle system is also a million times simpler than the ridiculous one of VIII (though not quite as lovely as VII's). Basically it's just really bloody lovely. Right now I shall place it in my number 2 spot right behind VII, and just in front of X and XII. I've started VI but then haven't played it for a while, so I'll need to get back into that, I hear that's a real beauty.

Re: Console Gaming
FFVI is probably the best of the bunch in it's own way. I played that game to fucking death - the only problem is that it's riddled with bugs, most of which are good ones, but some can be catasropthically game-breaking.

If he hasn't, I think I'll cry. SotN is one of the most amazing lovely things ever.

I must be the only person that actually likes VIII.
Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

Re: Console Gaming
I'm currently having a great time with the massively unappreciated Megadrive game, Castlevania: Bloodlines (Castlevania: The New Generation in PAL regions). I just got it boxed for £20, a great deal because it usually goes from anywhere between £40-£70.
This is probably one of the best games in the series yet hardly anyone has played it. The graphics are great, the difficulty is perfect and I think it has the best soundtrack (by SotN composer, Michiru Yamane) to any Castlevania game! Check this one out guys...

Naught wrong with FFVIII, I blooy love it.
As for Castlevania Bloodlines, the 'Bloodlines' title gets thrown around in that series so much that I stuggle to keep track.

Re: Console Gaming
OK, let me clear things up.
Castlevania: Bloodlines is the title of the only Castlevania game to be released on the Sega Genesis. It was released as Castlevania: The New Generation in PAL regions on the Megadrive.
Your confusion probably comes from the intro of SotN where it says; "Final stage: Bloodlines".
This was an error by the programmers and should have read; "Final Stage: Rondo of Blood" as it is indeed the final moments from the PC Engine game which was a direct prequel to SotN. Bloodlines has nothing to do with SotN and is set in a totally different time period. It's mention is just a simple mistake but one that has lead to lots of confusion amongst gamers!

Oh right. Why didn't you call it 'The New Generation' then? I'd've known what you meant

Playing it recently has definitely given me a new found appreciation for it. It annoyed the hell out of me for most of the first two discs with all the tediousness (although there were some lovely bits, such as the lovely music of Fisherman's Horizon), but when disc 3 begins it gets very nice indeed actually. However, IX is a million miles better for my lovely joy.
Symphony of the Night is downloading as we speak!
