Yup - there's got to be passion in it I think. But too much politics in the music (lyrics) gets real boring. I goy stoppped by the boys in blue the other day and got made to shell out on a new tyre for my van or face points on my licence or a ban... got me thinking... PIG SLAYER! PIG SLAYER! PIG SLAYER! as a chorus, but that's just anger. Got me thinking about that Ice-T / Body Count album - now that was fucking extreme.

I have a copy of the Bodycount album with Cop Killer on it. It comes across quite tongue in cheek really, it wasn't the savage attack on society and all we hold dear that it had been built up to be.
Speaking of Bodycount, I think their second album, which is a political statement for the majority, blasts the others out of the water. It's got so much more of an edge to it.
I killed Reanimator.

I don’t mind political themes in music, if the author of the lyrics doesn’t start to criticize people or discriminate them in his statements, or simply treat them like rubbish only because they have another outlook upon life than him. But speaking the truth, I don’t know what's the reason to sing about political stuff, it doesn’t change anything, politicians don’t even care about such lyrics, probably they don’t even listen to metal and I think people are surrounded by politics anyway, so they would rather forget about politics, relax and just have fun during the listening of their fav music.

Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

The trouble is most bands fill their lyrics with cliches such as 'religion are shitz'. FUCK OFF! I KNOW!
Still better than any "satanic" bollocks though.

I'll knock fascists if I want. And certain individuals too (Rumsfeld, Regan, the pope etc). Some people deserve discrimination and criticism.

I don't write political lyrics for the benefit of politicians. I don't expect Gordon Brown to listen to some STD song and go 'oh yeah! shit, never looked at it like that before.' I write political lyrics for one of two reasons:
1) to vent frustration against a target that pisses me off (these are, generally, not very eloquent)
or
2) to raise awareness about a particular issue that seems worthy of discussion eg Abu Ghriab or 'Cancer Alley'.

I think most political lyrics, especially in the thrash genre, are of the former. If I want a more considered political outlook I'll listen to punk, hip-hop or folk normally.
"And what about the churches and all their wealth
There's an unseen fortune under their belts
Are golden temples a symbol of God's way
This horde of wealth is a sickening display"
