It's frustrating going a thrash gig and giving out H.O.D. flyers that say "free thrash album" and people screw them up beofre even reading them. I cry inside. [-(

I always thought it was ace going somewhere and seeing a load of posters up and getting flyers for underground gigs, don't see it anymore but then again nobody ever went to those gigs either.

If I ever organised a gig, I'd make the flyers/posters look cool for my own satisfaction as well, so I could keep one as a memento! I like it when some time is spent on a cool poster!

Without wanting to self promote I've started a website to try and pull together all the gigs I can. New Metal Army. I get a metal gig feed from seetickets and I plan to add ticketmaster soon. I'd love to list more independent gigs as well but it's difficult to get all the data. If you want your gig listed email me at metaldazza@newmetalarmy.com and I'll get it listed... eventually.

It's sucks when you turn up at Bar Monsta or the Purple Turtle and it's half empty... although it makes getting the beers in a lot easier.

If you've got any idea's then drop me a line :)

PS: watch out for Simon the Zombie.... he's a grumpy motherfucker!

it's good to be totally pessimistic, imagine that no people are gonna turn up, that way when its at half capacity you can be really surprised that many people have turned up!!! :P

Luke/Povey/Reanimator, why don't you ask places that get a lot of metal crowd traffic like Scruffy Murphy's if you can give out flyers or posters or something there? When we played there I was talking to random people there and was surprised to find a good lot of them had never heard of Reanimator.

It's a damn shame that gigs are getting less and less of a turnout.

We try to stay clear of Scruffies for 'political' reasons and a lot of people suffer from the green eyed monster, as we are quite successful.

Trust me people know about it they just wont go to a place where there not 'known' if you get me.

Plus if you flyer there they throw you out as your stealing there customers.

ha  good point. I guess I am a pessemist by nature :wall:. I still rather see the venue full of people... you get the feeling that in london you should be able to get 500 people together. In the one conversation I've had with Aladdin from Bonded by Blood he said the LA scene was heaving with kids. I just wish the same vibe was here.

With that the assumption would be that there are more under-18 friendly gigs in the US as well then?

Venues have a massive part to play in it as well. The over 18 rule does stop a lot of people coming through the door, but at the end of the day unless you're renting the place out they need money from the bar to compensate so.. *shrugs*

As Pove says we can't flyer at Scruffys as our gigs aren't held there, but there's also a big clique thing going on. Essentially some people there aren't interested in seeing metal shows with bands they don't know, although they'll sometimes make an exception if its actually at Scruffy Murphys and they don't have to move for it. People there are aware, as they've shown up to our shows before, but then left when the specific cliquey band they want to see has finished.

I've always tried to be friendly and open to them but I'm fed up of the attitude of certain individuals there so as far as I'm concerned they can fuck right off. We've proved we don't need them.

Back on topic, I think gigs in this country do so much worse than in Europe / The UK partly because of cost but mainly because the mentality of most people in this country - and this doesn't apply to most people on this board - are lazy, close-minded and very sheep-like in their tastes. They listen to what the music press tells them to and attend shows likewise.
I killed Reanimator.

I don't think the number of sheep have increased over time. 15 years ago queueing outside the old marquee there used to be 200 metal heads all in a line scaring the public. This was routine... I left school, got changed, got on the train and joined the horde. Nowadays even at a packed gig, people seem to come in in dribs and drabs. People's attitudes seem to have changed. They go to the pub before and turn up for the headline act. The support bands don't even get on the fucking gig ticket any more.... ahhhh they don't even put the fucking band logo's on tickets anymore!

Last year when Entombed were playing at the Underworld. Entombed pulled out due to a family death (fair enough) and no fucker turned up. There were probably 50 people there! I think Susperia and Evile played (but I'm not sure on that). Fucking depressing. It was a great show... good times were had but people only care about the fucking headliner. We all got refunds: The Underworld did the right thing.

I refuse to give in though, loads of people are buying music with guitars in... there must be a way to get them to gig! It's so fucking awesome to see bands live.... ok, that's the end of that rant. I'll take my medication now!
