Re: Iron Maiden - THE FINAL FRONTIER
I genuinely love Brave New World. Well the first half of it!
It is truth that they havn't made a jaw dropping album in years, and that truth be told this needs to be an album which will have songs that I will want to hear live.
I have had the pleasure of seeing them twice now, and on those 2 times I think I heard essentially everything I want to hear....except the first two album stuff...fucking cant belive i missed that - Would do anything to hear stuff from those 2 albums...Murders in the rou morgue? FUCK YES! (Isn't Di'ana playing at HRL this year and playing the first two maiden albums in full will Blaze bayley playing on same day as well ...or did i misread that?)
I think Maiden have the potential to actually create a album that people would want to hear live, not that it matters to them, tey will probs just force this on people like they did with AMOLAD tour

You speak the truth there, not an album I go back to very often. Or at all really.
Brave New World is great though, was probably the album that got me into Maiden in the first place. And live they're still a force to be reckoned with, the only band that have actually sent chills down my spine.

AMOLAD was amazing. Since Bruce came back they have done no wrong. And im sure they're not about to fuck about this time. Maiden will want to go out on a high note.
I think they should just write 8 quality songs and make it the best album ever. Clearly 8 is the right number of songs for an Iron Maiden album as thats what all the AMAZING albums indicate.

Re: Iron Maiden - THE FINAL FRONTIER
Ah no way, Maiden still write some great stuff! NPFTD was definitely a massive step down from Seventh Son, but it was still great old fun, and had some classic songs on it! The X Factor and Virtual XI were the only actual 'bad' albums really, but even then, they have a good few hidden gems. And Brave New World was a masterpiece in my humble opinion. I bought it around ten years ago now, and I still listen to it all the time and love it the same as I always did. One of the best! DOD and AMOLAD were definitely a bit more up and down, but both albums still definitely have some really really great stuff on them, it's just a shame you have to wade through a bit of nonsense to get to the great bits.
Anyway, I have a massively excited feeling that The Final Frontier might be amazing. Especially if they're finally getting away from war - stepping away from the depressing subject matter might inspire them to write some more fast happy fun brilliant songs like The Pilgrim and Rainmaker!

I can't forgive Dance Of Death for the line "and I danced, and I pranced".

Really? That was my favourite bit.

Tailgunner! Holy smoke! .....That russian one?
Maiden will never please every/anyone ever. Even when they recorded their first album people just moaned that they didn't play covers anymore! They didn't care then so why would they now when they're arguably the biggest metal band in the world.
Final album would be nice to end on a high for defffos.

Re: Iron Maiden - THE FINAL FRONTIER
I've always thought it would have been amazing if they went with Adrian Smith's intentions of pursuing the Seventh Son sound further, rather than going 'back to basics' with NPFTD - it's not a terrible album, but imagine a genuine follow-up to SSOAS!
As for the new album, it would be nice to hear some good heavy metal from them again - I still think AMOLAD is one of their most tedious and limp efforts to date - although I do feel that bands like Maiden have nothing left to prove musically, in that they've more than earned their heavy metal stripes. If it begins to feel like they're on new album auto-pilot, I'd rather they called it a day with new stuff.
Let's just hope they don't decide to play the whole thing live - even if it is a decent album, the number of HM albums that I'd want to see performed in their entirety at the expense of other songs could probably be counted on two hands (true, many of them would be from Maiden's back catalogue, but creating anything that good again would be almost miraculous!).

I saw Janick Gers in the headline and got excited thinking he was leaving! Sounds harsh, but he is obviously redundant.
