Well, even if I did have a cock, that album wouldn't make me do that to it.

JESUS CHRIST! That's your opinion and all, but it's not one that I've heard very often! For me, Show No Mercy holds a coveted place in my favourite metal albums ever; perfect fusion of NWOBHM riff-writing with that sinister and seminal thrash sound which was just surfacing in the US, and must have been amazing to be part of. Not a bad track on the album, it's one of those releases I'd gladly pay to watch performed in its entirety live.

Re: Musicianship
I'm sorry amigo but i just think it sucks. I mean, as a debut it just can't stand up to the likes of Kill 'Em All, Bonded By Blood, The Legacy, Killing Is My Business etc and i'm just glad they got so so much better on later releases.

Re: Musicianship
How anyone can take Kill 'Em All over Show No Mercy is beyond me, but whatever floats your boat mate

Re: Musicianship
Yeah it's just my opinion that's all, Kill 'Em All is flawed in places (Seek And Destroy just rips off Diamond Head's 'Dead Reckoning) but on the whole it's superior. Kirk's solo's are great, the riffs are furious and of course they have Cliff.

Re: Musicianship
I'm willing to say Kill Em All may well be superior on some levels, but I really enjoy both debuts, both excellent debuts...

Re: Musicianship
I was just trying to highlight my opinion that i think it's Slayer's weakest album overall in terms of musicianship which is what this thread is about really. I'm really very very glad they got a LOT better.

Re: Musicianship
Ah, well in terms of musicianship perhaps - it does seem to be a trend for thrash bands to gradually get more musically proficient, but ironically I nearly always prefer their raw earlier efforts personally.

Re: Musicianship
I find it interesting to watch a band progress as musicians, in Slayer's case im amazed that in the few years or so between the releases the same musicians who played on 'Final Command' were responsible for the quite astonishing riffs/drum patterns on Altar Of Sacrifice.
The progression was immense.

Re: Musicianship
I also think the step up from Kill Em All to Ride The Lightning is pretty jaw-dropping, in terms of epic songwriting!

Re: Musicianship
Yeah absolutely, one listen to 'Call Of Kthulu' confirms that.

Re: Musicianship
Interesting indeed. Whilst technically, musically or whatever you can easily say that Ride The Lightning is the better album, I find myself listening to Kill 'em All a lot more. I love the energy and fun on that album, and The Four Horsemen is just bloody amazing.
