Hi,
Just wondering if any of you knew of any magazines (or publications) for metal thats not in the mainstream.
Basically i start uni like 2 weeks and i need to get hold of a magazine that provides to the type of music that i listen to (thrash) but is thier anything out thier that reports on new bands and new music comming out of scene at the minute?
I meen i just need something, even if its only had a few issues out, that reports on new bands, up and comming bands, thrash (new and old bands) and then any other types of music that it wants to throw in.
Is thier anything like this? I need it just to see if i am on the right tracks myself and if i need to start editing my website content to be in a more magazine format.
Thanks any suggestions would be fucking awesome!
Josh

All magazines are shite.
Want to read an interview? - Type the band and 'interview' into Google.
Want to find a new band? - Go on Metal Archives and click the genre you want.
Want band updates? - Go on MySpace and add the band.

I know tell me about it...i got the reading list through today and its dam horrible lol. Ive spoken to half of the people doing the class and they all seem to be...well indie kids into thier scene music and girls into thier vouge and fashion. On day one im gonna walk in with my long hair, patched up to fuck jacket, sleevless T and see what they make of that lol.
Its the only course that let me do general journalism but then split off into music journalism for my second year... i think il just take what ever i get from this over the 3 years and focus on writing online or keep the underground scene going with a magazine..
Or tour with my band if i can get that restarted/...we can dream

How can they teach you music journalism? Is one module based in the Union bar?

They can teach anything. I knew someone who was doing a PhD Thesis (that means he gets to be called Dr. if it's good) called 'Eurovision: A Platform for Estonian Nationalism'. Fair enough, the guy was a raging bender but doing a Eurovision-based PhD Thesis is just taking things too far.
Come to think of it, it does annoy when I see documentaries and they interview 'Music Journalists'. All they seem to do is talk about why a certain album was important and when. I could probably get Def Leppard to pay me for what I've been already been doing for free.
