Who is the fastest thrash band?
Moderators: James, Craig, Resilience Records
Good band. Their latest album really does suck though, despite the fact I quoted it in some drunken stupor.

I'd say D.R.I. and Wehrmacht are the fastest thrash bands I can think of.
Now I'm just waiting for someone to say "It's crossover" or something stupid like that! Its still thrash damn you!
Attitude Adjustment are pretty fast but I guess they're more hardcore punk put still kinda thrashy if you ask me!

This question is quite hard because there are two kinds of thrash bands: the others whose drummers play right hand strikes on both snare and bass drum (Slayer, Tankard, Kreator, Hypnosia) and those "cheat" by playing only half the strikes (Vio-lence, sometimes Flames, early Razor). Of course with only half of the hits it's easier to speed the music up. From those bands that never cheat, Hypnosia is easily the fastest I've heard (just listen "Circle of the flesh" from "Extreme Hatred") , but if you count the false-beaters and especially if you listen to the guitar playing, then Num Skull's debut album "Ritually abused" destroys all the other competitors. I've never heard anything as fast, it's just a fuckin' buzzsawing blur of "trrrrrrrrrrr..."

I will check out Hypnosia, and I need a decent Rip of Ritually Abused lol
Surely you meant to say that some drummers play 16th note rhythm on the hi-hit, and the 'cheating' way it to only play 8th notes, with the snare in between? I guess that's what you were getting at? Sadus do some crazy cheating to sound like they're playing faster, the really fast parts are in 12|16 time signature, so the guitars are playing a triplet-feel rhythm, but to straight 4|4-sounding drums
Whoever said Sodom, Sadus make them look like a bunch of slow wussies hahaha

Yeah, that's right. There was a time when I couldn't listen to any thrash band whose drummer would cheat, I just hated it. It took me years to get used to Razor's Malicious Intent (which I today think of as one of the best metal albums ever).
Still, it always sounds best the Slayer kind of way, it has more power and it has the real "thrash" feel.
A big problem with the fastest possible thrash is that it usually dulls down the riffs. None of the world's fastest thrash albums contain the any of the best riffs in the world. Except Razor's Violent Restitution (A times two album).
