Yeah, but it's not really fair to compare the average Texan to anyone in terms of intellect. I don't know if the average AMERICAN is dumber than the average Brit. Probably a little more ignorant of world affairs but still quite bright. Most Texan's though are complete freaking morons.

I agree. I've lived in the U.S. for 15 years now and enjoyed it. The average American is very similar to the average Brit in terms of intelligence. And you never have to worry about getting your head kicked in in a bar - excessive alcohol doesn't usually translate into violence over here.

I just find the whole thing hilairous. I should be horrified, and I would be, but it doesn't really surprise me at all. Jamie mentioned earlier on about guy who said 'whatever it takes to keep our country free' as if he'd been brainwashed all his life to just come out with something like that automatically - it's probably completely true, but people are like that everywhere. You can compare it to the whole MTV thing, and how people follow 'flavour of the month' trends and never seem to develop their own opinions. In fact, you can compare it to any part of life, especially in the way in which advertising and fashion works. It's an everyday occurrence, people following each other and never thinking for themselves. It's because people don't think for themselves and don't try and educate themselves that they end up being as stupid as these people. It's a sorry state of affairs really, but it's the way the world is. I wish it wasn't though. I wish I was Batman.

I think it probably has. We've only noticed it more in recent years because we've been growing up and are gradually learning more about these things. If you think back to the days of the war and extreme use of propaganda and all that, you can see people have always been easily brainwashed. All you need is someone in a position of authority who has the ability to make good speeches (like Hitler) or who has religion on their side (like Mr Bush or other fundamentalist extremists) to get the masses on side. Then they'll just believe anything you say.

i have met many americans here in Chile (my country) and i none of them was like the people of that video. well... actually the people in that video does not even know what is Chile and maybe they think we throw rocks to animals for eating.

You are right too, I think the IQ goes down when you get closer to the center of America but some of the East and West coasters I have met are really intelligent nice people.

That's starting to change now. They're saying on the telly over here that Texas will soon be a swing state (i.e. neither Democrat not Republican) due to the large number of Mexican immigrants living there. In 20 years or so it should be Democrat.

Texas was traditionally a Democrat state anyway. That all changed with successive Kennedy brothers but the South isn't as simple a voting demographic as most people (over here) would have you believe.

CNNN is a comedy show in Australia in a very similar vein to Chris Morris' 'The Day Today', so they probably would have done whatever it took to get the answers they got. Then again, it doesn't look like they had to try very hard!

Going back to the brainwashed point... just look at organised religion. People have always needed somewhere to turn for reassurance.

Indeed. I've just remembered a humorous Al Murray moment, in An Audience with Al Murray, which was on itv a couple of years ago, he was telling Gary Bushell a bit about fashion. He used an analogy of sheep dogs and sheep running around and such like, and he summed it up as 'They're a bunch of sheep following arseholes - that's all you need to know about fashion, Gary Bushell!'

A very humorous man, Mr Murray is. Well done to him.
