Lesser known, but utterly brilliant NWOBHM:
Virtue - We Stand to Fight 7"
Chateaux - Young Blood 7", Chained and Desperate, Fire Power
Y Diawled - Noson Y Blaidd 7"
Ricochet - Midas Light 7" (get it here: http://www.midaslight.com/mp3s.html)
Bleak House - Rainbow Warrior 7"
Tellurian - Reborn 7"
There's a lot of great stuff from this period, but also a lot of shite that tends towards AOR.
NWOBHM

I started getting my metal education toward the end of it's run but to me the three best bands of the genre were:
Obviously there were loads of others (I still remember the first time I heard The Tygers of Pan Tang and Venom on the old Channel 4 programme ECT) but these three bands just summed up the genre perfectly.

ahhh! can't believe i've missed this thread!
have recently been really getting into NWOBHM big time, i love the authentic nievatiy (wow that must be spelt sooo wrong) of it. its raw and powerful and exactly what heavy metal should sound like. its such a true and pure genre (in general) and really sounds like the age of a new era (which it totally was).
looking forawrd to checking out some of Bill suggestions, i trust them to all to be truely genius... or my money back?...

It's the best genre of all time (along with prog). I need to hear more obscure amazing bands. Too many bands get overshadowed by the might of Maiden and Priest (although that's because Maiden and Priest are better than anyone else, but still, there are many nice boys), and indeed I shall investigate further at some point. There are also loads of shit poser bands though who think they're NWOBHM but are really poncey twats who just want to show off their "great" voice of high range. But as with any genre, if you sift through the shit you will find some lovely sweetcorn. What a brilliant analogy.

Otherwise known as Power Metal?

Yeah, I can't get enough of their stuff! The Battlewitch track Doom or Die reminds me quite a bit of them, that's a really catchy song!

Cheers. It is designed for crowd participation. We have yet to play on large enough stage for this to take full effect.
If this was 1981 I would have that on the A side and Merlin's riff on the B side.

Merlin's Ryffe is amazing. It makes me hold out a fist of power to the sky. That is a sign of real metal of power and glory.
