There's no doubt that Zakk is a much better player technically, and more diverse (anyone who doesn't know it should check out the killer Book of Shadows album), but Kirk writes more memorable and tasteful solos in the main. Zakk has written a couple of REALLY superb solos (No More Tears for example), but Kirk's playing on the second and third Metallica records really elevates them to the next level.

He's a better player than both. He's probably not as good as Wylde technically but he's got a far better ear for a memorable solo. I think it's the song 'Something To Believe In' by Poison that has an awesome solo but I can't remember. Need to listen to that album again.
On the subject of Zakk Wylde...
How do y'all rate him against Randy Rhoads and Jake E. Lee? Personally I think Jake Lee is one of the best guitarists of the 1980s. He totally plays within himself too.
