There's no doubt that Zakk is a much better player technically, and more diverse (anyone who doesn't know it should check out the killer Book of Shadows album), but Kirk writes more memorable and tasteful solos in the main. Zakk has written a couple of REALLY superb solos (No More Tears for example), but Kirk's playing on the second and third Metallica records really elevates them to the next level.

The solo in No More Tears is probably my favourite solo of all, but Zakk uses way too many pinch harmonics for me.
I'd rate them both fairly equal.

I don't rate Kirk very highly at all as a player but I hate Wylde so The Hamster wins.

He's a better player than both. He's probably not as good as Wylde technically but he's got a far better ear for a memorable solo. I think it's the song 'Something To Believe In' by Poison that has an awesome solo but I can't remember. Need to listen to that album again.

On the subject of Zakk Wylde...

How do y'all rate him against Randy Rhoads and Jake E. Lee? Personally I think Jake Lee is one of the best guitarists of the 1980s. He totally plays within himself too.

I still maintain that Johnny Marr is the greatest guitarist ever. He's the 10th wonder of the world or summat. Just listen to 'This Charming Man' if you don't believe me.
