Basically it's totally not what I thought I was proposing...

Basically UK thrash has gone down hill thanks to the attempts to 'improve' it. Really pointless, guys. Really.

To elaborate on the reason why Iain was banned: it wasn't (as Iain will probably be one of the first to try and insinuate) an attempt to be all authoritarian and enforce the rules with an iron fist - but more or less because he was blowing the whole issue completely out of proportion, as I've already said in previous posts, and (in my mind anyway) needed to grow up a bit.

It isn't going to be an all-out crackdown because - to be honest - neither myself nor James actually have the time or the energy to police things that much!

The whole thing is quite funny really... I thought I was simply announcing an amicable tone-down, and now a coup d'etat seems to have occured beneath our noses, complete with a political prisoner! Not at all what I had wanted. :(

I don't support this ban idea, but have discussed it privately.

I'm afraid this thing has been completely blown out of proportion by the people that want to reform this forum. I genuinely think you've lost the plot guys, and you can't accuse me of not keeping my head screwed on in these debates because I make more sense than half the cunts on here most of the time. I really think that people have been saying there's problems where there aren't. Sorry, I have to agree with the "trouble-makers" in this case.

This is indeed a dark day for UK Thrash. You are in my prayers.

Fair enough, I wasn't exactly bothered with the state of the forum and quite enjoyed the chaotic character of it, but it seemed people were fed up with wading through silliness when there was a relevant music topic at stake.

I'm perfectly happy to just move on, keep an eye on flagrant insults, but otherwise enjoy UK Thrash for what it is, and I don't think any concrete "rules" should be announced or people banned.

As long as people generally don't make too much of a fuss about having to stick to rules then I don't think there's that much of a problem, and even less of a problem in the case of UKThrash because the "rules" aren't exactly that strict to start with!

Having to stick to rules isn't really that rare in forums - this seems to be the only forum on the Internet where there are absolutely no rules whatsoever. Of course in comparison to "no rules", any kind of introduction of authority is always pretty big, but as long as people don't fly in the face of whatever rules there are and basically say "fuck you, I'm doing it anyway" then there will never be a problem.

While it looks to be harsh on the face of it, the ban wasn't personally aimed at Iain, it was generally for behaving like a five-year-old and chucking toys when in actual fact they didn't even need to be chucked in the first place, because the so-called "fascist rules" aren't really that "fascist" at all!

How about we carry on as before, except to stick with one 'rule': EVERYTHING IN MODERATION. And I don't mean forum moderation :P (note: does not apply if mine and Jamie's porn wars ever resume)

Basically, the Metal Iain thread was a stupid move and it could have been addressed privately - I do think things were made out to be much worse than they were, and I also think that the complainers are making this out to be more of an apocalypse than it is.

In that spirit we'll bring Iain back from the black hole of Calcutta, as lots of us still appreciate his Scotch aura, and know he is just a loveable sissy really.

True, the ban has been revoked - but on the basis that Iain actually takes what's been said on board :)

Another point - for those moaners who genuinely can't handle internet banter - use the 'ignore user' option!
